John A. Freytag

FREYTAG John A. John A. Freytag, 90, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. John was born January 6, 1919 in Columbus, Ohio to Louis and Sarah (Schneider) Freytag. John served in the United States Army Band in San Francisco as assistant conductor. John married Della May Mason on July 11, 1943 and she survives. John was a music teacher for Capital University for six years and during that time played the trumpet for the Columbus Symphony. John then worked as director of music at Salem-Oak Harbor Schools for 15 years leaving there in 1967. John went on to be Lay Pastor at Salem Lutheran Church in Toledo for 3 years, and from there he joined the music staff at Medina City Schools for 11 years, retiring in 1981. John was a member of First United Methodist Church. Along with his wife, Della, John is survived by his daughters, Martha Gluth and Melinda Gallant; grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Managhan, Amy Gluth (Kimbal Urrutia), Erica (William) Haase, Danielle (Rick) Rewiako and five great-granddaughters. John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. A memorial Service will be held March 8, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Second Street, Perrysburg, Ohio with Pastor Terry Powell officiating with a meal to follow. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to First United Methodist Church Memorial Garden Fund, St Luke's Hospital Foundation, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
