John Iwinski Obituary

IWINSKI John A. John A. Iwinski, 87, passed away November 28, 2007, at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio. Born March 1, 1920, in Toledo, Ohio, John served in World War II from 1941 to 1945. Stationed at the Army Air Force Base at Presque Isle, Maine as a Staff Sergeant of the Military Police, he married Virginia Bronikowski on January 5, 1944, on base. John worked at Champion Spark Plug for ten years and retired because of illness. Later as health improved, he was hired by the Toledo Board of Education as a maintenance worker at various schools. In 1962, John was hired at Bowsher High School as a general maintenance worker. In 1986, the staff, faculty and entire student body gave him a wonderful retirement party held in the school gym. On September 20, 2001, John received the E.I. Bowsher High School Hall of Fame Citizen Award for all the years (1962 - 1986) of service to Bowsher Athletics. John has been awarded the honorary life membership in the St. Judes' Knights of Columbus Council #3904 as a 3rd Degree Knight where he has been a member since 1964. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish since 1965 where he enjoyed working the parish festivals and fish fries. He was also a member of the St. Patrick's Over 55 Club. He was always available and ready to his children and relatives and friends when in need. John and his wife traveled to Hawaii (29 times), Colorado, California, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, Maine, Canada, Tennessee, and Rome, Italy. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia; brother, Francis, of Toledo, Ohio; sister, Delphine Savin, of Toledo, Ohio; daughters, Carol Michaels, of Evergreen, Colorado, and Kathleen (Manny) Cabral, of Waipahu, Hawaii, and son, John (Susan) Iwinski, of Kettering, Ohio; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Toledo, Ohio on Friday, December 7, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions and Mass offerings be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Arrangements by W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home (419-385-5305).

Sorry to read the obit about John...What memories ...Going to Libbey High School...I winski drug store,on Nebraska & Detroit...the Iwinski moving on Belmont, off Detroit...And, I am glad to see that Francis is still here...He should remember me...I lived on Buckingham St...And, we had many good times with John and Francis...
May God bless you all...John is in good hands ...I live with my daughter...Been here since 2003...
