John Hunter Moran

It is with great sadness that the family of John Hunter Moran, known as "Jack" to friends and family, announces his passing on January 17, 2025, at the age of 67 years, due to complications of Parkinson's Disorder.

Jack was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 22, 1957, to Marjorie Yeager Moran and John H. Moran, and grew up in Cleveland and Medina before graduating from Medina High School. Jack obtained a bachelor's in Communications from the University of Akron and a master's in Library Science at the University of South Carolina, before beginning a career as a librarian with the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library system in Toledo, Ohio. He worked primarily at Sanger and Maumee branches, and particularly enjoyed assisting local professors with research projects and ensuring a good music selection. In his spare time, Jack loved sports (especially OSU college football and the Cleveland Browns), traveling in Europe, medieval history, reading, and music.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his children, Katie Moran (Jason Purcel) of Wilmington, NC; Sarah Moran Nevarez of Columbia, SC; and Mike Moran of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Aoife Nevarez and Audrey Purcel; sisters, Shelby Holmes of Medina, Michele Carrick of Cleveland, Kathleen Dillon (Larry) of Kansas City, and Pamela Benedict of Medina; close friend, Dave Dohanyos; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was predeceased by his grandson, Eoghan Nevarez; brothers, Terry and Ronnie Dawson; nephew, Thomas Holmes; and parents, Marjorie and John Moran.

A Celebration of Jack's life will be held 4:30 p.m., Sunday, February 16, 2025, at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home, Westlake, Ohio, with the family receiving friends 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark, Ohio, will be private.
