JACOBS

Jon Allan

Jon Allan Jacobs, age 71, passed away in Columbia, Missouri on the evening of Sunday, December 7, 2014. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 11, 1943, to Marjorie (Cartwright) and Floyd Jacobs. A journeyman electrician, Jon was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #8 for decades, working on many of the auto plants in the area. A major hobby enthusiast, Jon participated in many hobbies including model planes, motorcycle racing, scuba diving, muzzle-loading, skiing, woodworking and the creation of various imaginative objects. One of Jon's major loves was flying and he was an Ultralight pilot and instructor and also had his private pilot's license. A yearly sight at the Apple Butter Festival in Grand Rapids, he brought the high wheel bike he made and gave children rides. Jon was nothing if not memorable and was known for his friendly personality and many stories

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Mike and Paul. Surviving him are his two sisters, Diana and Caryl; three children, Sandy, Jeff, and Mindy; five grandchildren, Erik, Jason, Jesse, Chris and Cyrus, and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Autumn.

As Jon wasn't a formal person, a wake will be held in the spring to share memories and margaritas.

I just discovered that we lost JJ. I was hoping to see him and his easy smile again. Always the consummate competitor, he was a part of our aviation competitions that I always enjoyed. I wish we'd had more time.

We will miss JJ here in NW Ohio. I send condolences from all the Lite Flyer guys and especially Hummel Aviation. Though Jon retired from the "Chief Demo Pilot" position a few years ago, we all enjoyed his occasional visits. Whether it was stories about an engine out landing or an update on the current cycle project, we always blew thru the better part of an afternoon catching up. Jon was a true friend to Hummel Aviation, we'll miss him.

JJ was a heck of a pilot, an intolerable cuss, and a good friend. I'll miss you, Jon.

mindy and family, talked to marti this am and she told me of your dads passing. I knew him briefly, but remember how much he loved his planes and teaching. he would be so happy when he talked about his students. I am so glad that you were with your father, as he continues on his journey. God bless you, peace in your heart...ellen malko-stacy temperance, mi

Jon (or JJ, as we all knew him) had a big personality with strong opinions that not everyone could handle, but if he considered you his friend, he would do anything for you. In many ways he was the glue that held our flying group together.

I learned a lot from him, both about flying and about life in general. He was my good friend, and I will miss him.
