Jane Jacobs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - East Louisville on Jan. 9, 2026.
Jane Ann Jacobs April 5, 1947 – January 7, 2026
Jane Ann Jacobs, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born in Rockford, Illinois, Jane was the daughter of Clifford and Romona Christianson. She spent her summers at Lake Wandawega, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater and Platteville before leaving the cold weather for sunny San Diego, California. There she met Alfred Jacobs, and they later married in Yuma, Arizona. After several years and moves, they settled in Louisville, Kentucky.
Jane was a devoted wife, deeply loving mother and grandmother, and was happiest when surrounded by family. She was an animal lover through and through, had many pets throughout her life, and was known to take in several strays over the years.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Alfred; her two children, Michelle (Raj) Midha and Scott (Tonya) Jacobs; grandchildren, Ellie, Claire, Josie and Jaxson; sisters Joan (Bill) Sterrett and Jean Naffziger; and numerous extended family members who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary.
Jane will be remembered for her warm heart, unexpected sense of humor and quiet strength.
Visitation will be held at Ratterman Brothers East Funeral Home at 12900 Shelbyville Rd, on Monday, January 12th at 3:00 pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kentucky Humane Society or ASPCA.
