Joseph Bublick Obituary

Joseph Richard Bublick

Joseph Richard Bublick, 69, of Waterville, OH, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 17, 2023. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 30, 1954, to Richard J. and Gloria J. (Marshall) Bublick. Joe was a 1972 graduate of Woodward High School and was recently inducted into their Hall of Fame for involvement in, and dedication to, his community. After attending trade school, Joe began his general contracting career, eventually leading him to start his own business, Bublick Construction Inc., in 1989. He was a three-time Life Member of the Toledo Chamber of Commerce and three-time President of PRO (formerly THRA). Over the years he had been active with many organizations including the Business Owner Management Association, the Rotary Club of Waterville, Old Newsboys, Elks Club, Kiwanis Club, HBA Remodelers Council, and he was also a Zoning Inspector for Waterville Township. He was heavily involved with the Zenobia Shrine and was Worshipful Master for the Rubicon Masonic Lodge in 2001 and Potentate for Zenobia Shrine in 2015, or 'Grand Poobah' as his kids called it. He sat on many boards and committees including AWHS Fullbackers Association, the Toledo Air Show, Assistant Dogs of America, National Management Association, Toledo Area Metroparks, Toledo Home & Garden Show, Habitat for Humanity, Toledo Area Small Business Association and City of Toledo Board of Control, to name a few. Joe was memorable for his networking skills and generosity, and he fostered many loyal relationships, and most often friendships, all throughout his career.

Joe was affectionately known to his grandchildren as 'Papa Bear'. He was larger than life, hardworking, devoted to his family, kind-hearted, sensitive, and sometimes stubborn but always there for those who needed him. He had an infectious laugh which often made up for his bad jokes. In the days when his body was kinder to him, he loved riding his motorcycles and also enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing with family who were friends and friends who were family. Most recently he enjoyed the company of his Friday lunch group, The Turtles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard J. and Gloria J. Bublick; sister, Judith Czaja; brothers, Richard Bublick, Mark E. Bowlick, Victor Bowlick; stepsister, Sandy Henniger.

Joe is survived by his children, Shannon (Jeff) Jacobs, Kristal (Todd) Helfman, Joseph (Amy) Bublick; grandchildren, Ellis Meyer, Ray, Max and Cole Helfman, Joseph, Benjamin and Augustus Bublick, Jacob and Kendall Walter; siblings, Jimmy (Carol) Bublick, Jeff (Annette) Bowlick, Jan Swiczkowski; sister-in-law, Lucille Bowlick; his faithful cat, Gilley; as well as many dear relatives and lifelong friends.

Lastly, he is survived by his 'bride' of 51 years, his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, his Happily Ever After, Wanda Bublick.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 3-9 p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH, with a Masonic service beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The funeral service is on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

Joe was my grade school and high school friend that I knew from the days when he lived in Toledo on Central Avenue. We biked and hunted together throughout grade school and high school, and did other things that good friends did. Fond memories of an old but not forgotten friend.

I was surprised to see Joe's obituary. I knew him from our grade school/high school days and we "hung out" back then. I remember when he got a job with Enterprise Roofing many years ago. I lost touch, however, when my career required me to leave Toledo and I traveled the world for the next 32 years. Rest in Peace, Joe. I will always remember you as being that vibrant, young friend I knew.

Brother Joe B, I get blurry vision just thinking about you. The world lost a wonderful human being Illustrious Sir. For the short 10 years of our Friendship and Brotherhood you were always an inspiration to me and so many others. I always admired and looked up to for advice and guidance and you always gave it with sincerity, love and understanding. I never knew you to ever demand something from anyone, but I somehow could never say no to any request you asked of me. I don't believe No was a word or answer I could say to you. I believe it was because you never asked anything from someone because of need I felt it was because of teaching in your own way of instilling doing for others is what we all should be doing. Everyone knew when you walked into a room, it wasn't from hearing your voice. I believe it was because the room got brighter, and your presence proceeded your entrance. Your giving of self to others in need without expecting anything in return was an undying gift that God instilled in you and only a few have that gift. You inspired me to be a better man and a Mason. And you showered so many other people with Love, Kindness & Respect. I will always remember and cherish our talks and the times we shared together Illustrious Sir. Joe B I am so dam glad to have met you.
