Joyce Duhaime Obituary

Joyce M. Duhaime

Joyce (Ritenour) Peio Duhaime, born March 4, 1935, at home in Lakewood, Ohio, to her parents, Edward and Pearl Ritenour, passed away at age 90, as peacefully as she lived, at home the evening of June 18, after spending her day with family. Joyce moved to Toledo in high school, graduating from DeVilbiss in 1953.

Joyce was very athletic. She played softball, volleyball, kickboxing, always moving and exercising all the way into her 80's. She loved gardening and was very proud of her flowers.

Joyce was a member of Bethel Baptist Church since 1973 (now Soma City Church) and has been a loyal and faithful servant, honoring God ever since. Mom loved to sing. Whether it was the church choir, Christmas Cantas, eventually joining the CMI Ohio Michigan concert choir in 1992. She performed in the sound of music at Stranahan amongst other musicals. She still went to lunch with "the girls" making beautiful lifelong friendships.

She was a wonderful stay at home mom before becoming known as "Mrs. Peio" working at Maumee high school for over 35 years as attendance and discipline secretary. A job she loved! She still went to lunches with "the ladies from work." She touched so many students hearts with her genuine kindness and caring, graceful attitude, and guidance. It seems everybody has a story about how Mrs. Peio touched their lives. Family was extremely important to Joyce. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her grand and great-grandchildren will always have the sweet memories of their sleepovers together. There was no sacrifice too great for her family.

Joyce was blessed with the ability to travel later on in life, going to Jerusalem in 1996, Hawaii in 2010, and Europe, including France and Italy, in 2011. She enjoyed living 6 months out of the year down in Naples, Florida, with her then husband, Gary, ultimately returning to Toledo permanently in 2018.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; brother, Chuck; beautiful daughter, Lisa Gonzales; husbands, Ken Peio, Bob Miller, Gary Duhaime.

She is survived by her daughters, Robin (Dave) Cole, Shelley (Travis Cubley) Morey-Pelton, Lori Marko; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Joyce left a very big impact on everyone she crossed paths with. Her lighthearted, joyful, great sense of humor gave wisdom, grace, and peace to others.

To honor her and pay your respects at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., where Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 2-8 p.m., with a Saturday morning 10 a.m. Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

I think it was in 1959 when we lived across the street from Mrs Duhaim on 112 Street in Point Place. She was so nice & fed us tomato soup. Thank-you, my sympathy to her family.

Mrs. Peio was a kind and gentle soul. I was one of her office aids at Maumee HS in the 80´s and have nothing but great memories of her. She was like my "school mom". Always there with an encouraging word and also with a "swift kick" when I need it.
Rest in peace Mama P!!

A super mom at Fort Miami School. Joyce was always there for her kids! She was the kind of mom that was a role model. The world lost a good woman. Rick Sabo formerly fourth grade teacher
