It is coming up on 18 years. Time goes on but Keith is not forgotten. I´m writing this because he was in my dream last night. Big smiling face and a long tight hug. When I woke up I couldn´t help but think about him. I looked up his obituary and went through all the messages and pictures. A lot of memories flooded my mind. Keith was so lovable, funny and energetic. I still have letters he wrote and will never forget when his mom came to my highschool´s homecoming game to give me a gold coated rose for being crowned on court (my senior year 05) because he couldn´t be there. I still have the rose. My grandma met him and thought he was the sweetest and also wrote him letters. Anyone he met he left an impact on. Sending love up to Keith and to all family and friends. Keep remembering him.

To the family of SGT Keith Kline, I was in the 96th CA with Keith. I retired in Oct 06 with 22 years of service, and I can truly say your son was one of the most positive, energetic, and friendly young men that I had the pleasure to serve with. I didn't find out about Keith being killed in action until several years later, but my grief was as strong as if it was yesterday. I had thought about posting something here many times, but I was at a loss for words that would be any consolation. When I think of the fine young men and women that we've lost, your son is the one that comes to my thoughts first. In addition to being a hero, Keith was a great american. I'm sure that Keith is in heaven with our Father and at peace. I hope that you've found that same peace that only time can bring. I'm truly sorry for your loss. Even as time passes, our prayers still go out to you and your family.

I didn't know Keith personally, but my husband was his First Sergeant. He was in the truck behind Keith and Jim when they were killed. He came home from that deployment with so much guilt from not bringing his whole company home. About a week after my husband came home, he told me stories of Keith. My husband is a Mt. Dew addict, to say the least. He told me how Keith would get Mt. Dew from where ever he could find it and then write Travis' name on all the cans. Then if anyone tried to take one Keith would threaten them. Travis thought the world of Keith. Every year on the day they were killed, Travis takes the day to sit and remember him.
Keith, you must have been a wonderful person. You will always be remembered in our house. May you rest in peace.

Even though I’ve never met them, I had the privilege of serving with MAJ Ahearn and SGT Kline and we lived on FOB Falcon in Baghdad, Iraq. I also carry the memory that their passing could have been mine. I had driven on that road earlier that day and as I returned I heard that ill-fated explosion and soon saw their damaged vehicle on the road.
The first time I saw either of these men was when I created a video for their memorial service in Iraq. I have posted these photos and the video to the internet to remind the world of not just how they made the ultimate sacrifice but rather to document how they lived.

SGT Kline-
Don’t know if you remember me from your days in the 96th CA BN but I sure remember you . This August, while in Iraq, I saw your name on the global…. to my surprise I saw you were still listed on the MNF-I address book; it made me a bit upset but in retrospect I am glad they kept your name posted, you will always be there with those who served with you. I wanted to tell you that Iraq is a better place now than it was last year thanks to you and Jim. My thoughts and prayers are always with you. I do not know your family member but I do know he is a hero. When he joined the military he vowed to lay down his life, if necessary, for the good of others. The Bible says there is no greater love than that. I just want you to know there are thousands of us who are ordinary citizens who are grateful for your son and thank you for raising someone so courageous. I know you miss him more and more everyday. What can I say but there isnt a day that goes by that I dont think of you. The girls talk about you all the time. They were so looking forward to you and Ashley taking them to beach, they also still talk about you letting them put hairties in your hair, and when I look at TJ I still remember the time I was working and you were watching them and Rob had just bought that 600 dollar dvd/cd thing and you met me at the door and I knew something was wrong I just thought omg what has happened and you told me you were playing on the computer and TJ was hanging of the dvd player and broke it..lol.. I couldnt find it in my heart to be mad.You were so full of life everyone around you felt it. You had so much passion for everything you did and anyone you met, I miss you little cousin Do me a favor and keep lookin out for your dad, I have never seen Allens eyes look so empty before. To Keiths family,
I loved your son to death. He always seemed to brighten my day no matter what, every time I would see him he always had a huge smile on his face and gave me a hug. He was the sweetest man. I moved away from Bragg and he was there at my fairwell before I left. He wished me luck and I told him I would be back to visit. When I found out about his passing I was devistated. I am truly sorry for your loss. I still get emotional when I see his picture.
We would joke all the time. I always called him Shorty!

keith was my oldest nephew and i have allot of good things to say about him he was always giving me and him worked together and had fun together. one time i asked him if he could help me pick up some wood cause i had a tree cut down i know he needed money for the prom so i said yeah i can use some help, he came over and was helping me and i kept saying lets take a brake and he said NO we gotta get work done. Then i remember the first time i gave him a beer (legal age) we talked and talked and talked pretty soon i ran out of beer. one time me and him raised a garden at his dads and we raised some pumpkins and i said Keith you sell them and we will split the money, he said ok well not too long after that he told me Uncle Scott i got the pumpkins sold, i said cool after a few weeks i said Keith where is the money at from the pumpkins? he said uncle scott i bought candy and pop with it. I just laughed he was in grade school at the time. another story about Keith i made a little campground behind his place and he wanted to know if he could borrow my tent and i said well of course and i gave him some wood to burn, well he ran out of wood and him and his friends burnt up his ma and dads lawn furniture i just laughed when i found out about it. he was one helluva good kid. God Bless You Keith, Love uncle Scott

I knew "The Kline".
I once asked him if he was related to Patsy Kline. He said that he did not think so.
His picture is not him, he was always in a joyful mood. Great to be around. Make you life, feel good about yourself.
I was in the same unit with him, 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne).
Great man and a fine soldier.
Very proud to have served with him.

I don't really know where to start, I am so sorry for your loss. I was stationed with Keith at Bragg, I remember when he first got to the unit. He used to play with my sons, we had drinks together, he helped me pick up furniture in his truck. I remember having him at my house eating dinner with my family. He enjoyed playing with my sons, I remember telling him that he had the same size shirt as my oldest son. He was a great friend and I will never forget him. I left bragg in june 2006, I remember having some beer with him at the Green Beret Club the day before I left. Keith will never be forgotten.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Sgt Keith Kline was a Great friend and a amazing solider, he had everything in life and knew how to get it. I was a friend to him we went paintballing alot for the church along with Sgt Joe Bergman. His Lost has hurt alot of us even people he did not know. I have talked to alot of soliders even from my unit B co 1-148TH INF and alot of them felt regret because of our lost. When I leave November 27th for Iraq I will gladly take his name on our flag to show the enemies we are not afraid of what we are doing or to die for our country and you. If I could I would give my life to bring Sgt Keith A. Kline back to us. I say a prayer for him and his family every day. May God Bless his family him and our country. We will win no matter the cost.

I returned to San Antonio late last night from burying my precious nephew. That was the most difficult thing I've had to do in my 41 years of living. Today I arrived at work trying to focus but how can I when within 6 weeks I will be deployed to the place where Keith gave his life. As service men and women that is what we do and thank God for all of you out there that support and pray for us.
As I read all these entries I'm just amazed (so my family wasn't being biased about how we felt about Keith!) It seems the love, admiration, and respect for him was felt by all that knew him. It does my heart good to read these remarks and I'm learning a lot about him that I didn't know. You see Keith was just a baby when I left home for the Air Force so my relationship with him consisted of my sporadic visits to Ohio over the past 22 years.
I find myself wishing and praying for a "do over" with keith but of course I know that isn't possible. The memories I have will have to suffice for now. I'm hoping that many of you that knew him will contact me and tell me all kinds of stories that will bring a smile to my face.
I want to thank everyone that took part in helping to lay my nephew to rest. He was a great kid (young man) and I feel like we did him proud by all the love that was expressed for him. I'm sure he was looking down from heaven just as amazed as I was at the outpouring of love and support. I want to give a special thanks to all the soldiers that came from Ft Bragg. It did my heart good to see my fellow service men/women honoring him. I have always tried to explain to my family how much my Air Force family means to me and now they got to see first hand how awesome our United States military really is!
To Alan and my sister Betty-you guys raised one wonderful young man! I hope that you may find peace and comfort from the Lord above and continued support from family and friends. I'm always here for you. Please always remember your son did not die in vain. He gave his life serving his country doing what he loved and there is no higher honor than that for a service man/woman.
God bless all who read this and God bless America!! I love you Keith!!

The last time I seen him, he was standing proudly in his uniform at Oak Harbor United Brethren Church, next to Joe Bergman, also in uniform, just before they left for their first tours of duty. I am so sorry of what happen to my dear friend and his family. SGT Kline was like my little brother who had a very big heart and would never give up on anything especially if he is right. When I came to 96th Civil Affairs in 2003 and I met SGT Kline(then PFC Kline) for the first time, the first thing I asked him was "do your parents know you are in the military", he laughed and said yes and I am doing my part in serving and protecting my country. I was amazed at this young man, even when I see him walking around the unit and he will always say "SFC Clay, I am doing my part". I am going to miss you my brother and I will see you again to give you a rematch in NFL MADDEN.

SGT Kline was always the life of the party, My 13 year old daughter, Samantha, (who is 4 inchs taller then SGT Kline), would always ask SGT Kline each time she seen him, "Does your mom know your in the Army"? She could not believe he was even old enough to be in the Army.
I have a picture of SGT Kline sitting on Santa's (me) lap with an Elf on roller skates (My daughter) at our 2006 Battalion Christmas party, and when Santa ask him what he wanted for Christmas, do you know what he said? He wanted to go to Iraq. I told him to be carful of what he wished for, It just might come true. He really wanted to go. He really wanted to serve his country.
Each day, no matter what we were doing Kline would always put a positive spin on things no matter what.I honestly can't remember a time he did not have a smile on his face. He was a great trooper and an excellent soldier. It was my pleasure to know and work with Sgt Kline.
I can remember seeing SGT Kline staying late many nights to set up the BN classroom for FRG meetings....You see he was the only one that could get the overhead to work.....Shoot he was the only one who could get the thing to power on. He would come to every "Newcommers" brief and welcome single soldiers to the battalion. You see SGT Kline was the Battalions "BOSS" rep. That stands for Better Oppurtunites for Single Soldiers" He was the guy that set up trips and things for all the single Soldiers to do. He would always tell new arrivals "Get out of the barracks" on the weekends...Go do something..."Don't be a barracks Rat"...He would tell them about all the things to do on and around Fort Bragg.
Sgt Kline was a good como dude. He would always get mad at me when I would call up to his office and tell him I had a como problem. He would run down to my office and find me staring a my computer. You know what he would say.....Hey You better call SSG Hunt....I am a Radio Guy!!!! Give me a handmike and some 550 cord and I will get you a connection but I can't help you find your e-mail!!!"
My family would like to send our deepest condolences to the family during this time. Thank you for allowing us to get to know your son SGT Kline.

I sit here in amazement as I read the previous entries and I too just wanted to say "thank you" to Sgt. Keith Kline and his family. Thank you isn't nearly enough, it doesn't do justice to the sacrafice that this young man made for me, my children, and our country. As a fellow OHHS graduate this has really hit me hard, even though I didn't know your son I am honored to have graduated from the same school that he did. Words truely cannot express how I feel. I am so sorry for your loss. Your son is my true hero. God Bless you and your family.

Today, 12 July 2007, a ceremony was held by the men of the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion honoring your son and my friend Keith here in Baghdad. The ceremony was beautiful and attended by so many that it was standing room only. Bagpipes were played over the speakers and full military honors were rendered. LTC Ruth and other gave beautiful eulogies remembering how great a person your son was and how he ensured things were always good to go for everyone before they went out on missions.
I first met Keith when he arrived at the 96th in 2002. I worked in the intelligence office and inprocessed him into the unit. we would often talk throughout the work day about NASCAR and college football. Your son was always eager to help anyone with just about anything, even if he did not know what to do, he was at least by your side. I saw him climb up in rank and the most I remember about him is he was always smiling.
I remeber the last time we saw each other, before I got out of the Army, I gave him a hug and then told him to be safe and that I would try to see him in Iraq. He replied back with "OK, I will and I will see you there." I never got the chance to see him here.
Your son will always be remembered by my family and all of us who had the honor and the privilege to meet and work with him. Eventhough you may not see it in the news, his efforts and those of others who are here serving our great nation are making a positive impact in the lives of the Iraqi people and the security of our nation. He has brought honor and respect to your household.
Thank you for the gift you and Keith have given to myself, my family and our nation. Your family will forever be in our prayers. May God grant your family peace and comfort during this time and may he bless your family in all the days to come.

It almost seems like "too little, too late" to say now that we are grateful to your son and to all of the other brave men and women who are serving our country. But please be assured that not only are we grateful, but we also admire the unselfish willingness of your son and others like him who are willing to lay their lives on the line for the cause of freedom. The very least that we can do now for your son to repay him is to remember to pray for you, his family, friends and loved ones. May God wrap you in His loving and comforting arms at this difficult time.

I got to know Keith over a few months while my son was a roommate of his. He was a fun, delightful man who could always have my household laughing. Having him at our house at Christmas this past year was wonderful. I will never forget him. We will miss him terribly. My heart goes out to his family. I know how much he was loved by the way he talked about you.

I know not where to begin to say THANK YOU to all of you for signing this guest book. I had no idea anything like this existed. It is so comforting to know there are people like you who don't even know us, yet understand our loss and are grieving with us. God bless those of you who have also lost a loved one.
A little bit about Keith now. He always gave to others without ever expecting anything in return. Never had a bad word to say about anyone. Had this absolute adorable way of saying "yes" when you asked him a question (you would have had to hear it to know what I mean). We all remember it so vividly and talk about it trying to imitate it. He was always smiling and had the most incredibly beautiful eyes. The kind of eyes and eye lashes every woman would love to have.
His senior year in high school he qualified to compete at State for wrestling in the 103 lb. weight class. He was down 10 - 2 when he got thrown on his back. He had to arch using his head and feet for over one minute to keep from getting pinned. He just would not quit or give up. In the end he ended up winning that match in double overtime. He got to stand on the podium in 6th place. Little did we know that at that moment, God was giving us a first glimpse of the man Keith would become.
He was completely committed in his decision to joining the Army and never had any second thoughts. He had no qualms about laying his life down to protect our country and our way of life if he was called to do so. That he did! Because of people like our soldiers, we are able to share our grief and love. Freedom is not free - there is a cost to have it. We all know what it is. I have faith though, that God will confort us in time and help ease our pain. I know it will never go away completely but I do believe that Keith will also play a part in helping us. He is still with us and always will be.
One last thing - last Saturday there was a four day country music concert held somewhere in Ohio. Toby Keith performed Saturday night. He had somehow heard about what happened to Keith and dedicated his new single "Love Me If You Can" to Keith. If you have not heard it, you need to. It is all about our soldiers and their convictions. It is absolutely beautiful.
I am Keith's aunt. Bless you all and again, thank you for signing Keith's guest book.

To our Fallen Brother,
You will be missed, but not forgotten

July 9, 2007
To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Though this soldier is not yet known except to their unit or families, my grief for the loss of your son/daughter is felt. I know what it's like to loose your child in war as my son was killed in action too. It feels that your heart has been ripped from you and you don't understand why this happened to your child. I've felt all you will feel in the coming days and weeks and though I’m not close in relation to area, but I am very close by email. I offer any support to you and your family that I can. It's with the Grace of God that I've gotten through each day and with His healing love and comfort that I've been able to once again sleep at night and not cry each day. Believe me I do know how hard it is. May God continue to heal you and your family and contact me when and if you are ever ready, even if it's to vent or cry.
In memory of my son SPC Harry (Buck) Winkler III KIA 11/12/06 Samarra, Iraq with the 2-505th PIR 82nd Airborne Div
