Richard "Lee" Spice, age 60, died Friday, June 9, 2023 in Toledo, Ohio. Lee was born on March 4, 1963 in Toledo, Ohio to Burt and Jane Spice. He was the 5th of six children and attended Wernet's Corner Elementary, Old Orchard Elementary and then graduated from Bedford High School in 1981. Lee was viewed by his classmates as a talented athlete, dynamic leader, and loyal friend.

He participated in football, basketball, and track. In his senior year, Lee held great pride that he was elected by his teammates as captain of the football team. For his college years, Lee attended Heidelberg from 1985-1987 where he studied business and created many lasting friendships. Lee owned and operated "SpIce Painting" in Toledo where he worked residential and commercial contracts. At the age of 40, Lee took pride that his team placed second in the nation at the July 2003 Gus Macker Basketball Tournament. He loved following both college football and basketball.

Most importantly, Lee was an avid University of Michigan Football fan and was widely known for his enthusiasm for tailgating at the Big House. Lee will be remembered by his friends for "always being up for fun and adventure"; "his infectious smile and one-armed bear hugs"; and the fact that "he would give you the shirt off his back". Lee will be remembered by his family for his tender heart, his youthful enthusiasm, and sense of duty.

Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Jane Spice; and his brother, Jerry Spice. Surviving are his sister, Cindi Farnell (Norris); Brad Spice (Kim); Mindy Wood (John); Sara Vance (Robert); Dina Wells (ex-wife); and eleven nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman,) Temperance, MI (734) 850-5000. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 6 p,m. Lee will be interred at the Erie Union Cemetery in a private sibling ceremony.
