M. Glowczak Obituary
GLOWCZAK Sister M. Agatha Sister M. Agatha Glowczak, 101, a Sister of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio, died February 1, 2007, at the Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio. She was born Stephanie Glowczak on July 26, 1905, to Adelbert and Anna (Kowalczyk) Glowczak in Minneapolis, MN. On June 24, 1920, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio, from St. Philip Parish in Minneapolis, MN. Her final vows were professed on June 25, 1930. Sister Agatha earned a B.S.E. in Biology/Hospital Administration at Toledo Teacher's College, Toledo, OH; an M.S. in Biology at University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN; an M.H.A. in Hospital Administration at the University of St. Louis, St. Louis, MO, and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from the College of Steubenville. Sister Agatha was the recipient of the Caritas Medal from the Diocese of Steubenville, Ohio; the Papal Medal (Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice) from the Holy Father Pope Paul VI and the Poverello Medal from the College of Steubenville. As a teahcer, Sr. Agatha taught for twenty-four years beginning at St. Adalbert School, Superior, WI; St. Hedwig School, Toledo, OH; St. Barbara School, Cleveland, OH; and for 17 years at Central Catholic High School, Toledo, OH. She also taught summer courses in the Extension Department at St. Teresa College, Winona, MN. In 1946, Sr. Agatha was appointed Administrator of Gill Memorial Hospital, Steubenville, OH, and served in that capacity until 1960. She also worked on the plans and directed the building program for St. John Medical Center, Steubenville, OH, and was appointed its first Executive Director in 1960. Sister held memberships in many hospital organizations and associations. She retired from active ministry in 1975. For the 15 years following her return to Sylvania, OH, she operated the Gift Shop at Rosary Care Center and served as a Eucharistic distributor for 2 nursing homes and at the Rosary Hall Chapel. She worked as a receptionist, visited the sick in hospitals and the infirmary and devoted the major part of her time to prayer and ministering to the needs of the Church and her Community. Sister Agatha leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Albina Nyberg, New Hope, MN; many nieces and nephews; many dear friends and her Sisters in Community. A Welcoming Service will be held at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio, on Sunday, February 4, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. Her remains will be moved to Madonna Hall for viewing until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening and after 9:00 a.m. until her Funeral on Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Chapel, Sylvania, Ohio, on Monday, February 5, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
