Marie Mims Obituary
September 19, 1951 - December 24, 2020
Mrs. Marie Boyd Mims, of Toledo, OH, made her final journey home Thursday, December 24, 2020. She was born September 19, 1951 in Sandusky, OH to Vor Lee and Ferdinard Graves. Marie was a 1968 graduate of Sandusky High School & received her Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's Degree at the University of Toledo within 5 years.
Marie supported her family as a Professor the University of Toledo for 8 years and went on to become an Independent Healthcare Provider for the State of Ohio, retiring in 2009. She married Edward Mims on December 30, 2003.
She was a saint and in all aspects of her life, a loyal and personable leader to family and friends in her life.
She was an advocate for civil justice & equality at Whitmer High School from where both her sons graduated.
Marie also worked as an independent tax preparer, assisting various professionals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Boyd; her favorite aunt, Auntie Bell Posey; grandmother, Zora Barnes and siblings, Louise Graves Williams, Peggy Graves Williams, Octavius Graves & Clarence Graves.
Marie is survived by her husband of 17 years, Edward Mims; son, David Boyd and stepdaughter, Kimberly Houston; sisters, Gloria Cade, Sadie Graves and Kathy Jones; special friends,
Donna Chiles, Fedora and Crystal Knight, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. Toledo, OH (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Entombment at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
