Mary Jane Palmer

Mary Jane (Respress) Palmer of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on January 28, 2025. Mary was a spunky, warm-hearted woman of God who lived her life for her family and friends.

She worked at JC Penny in both sales and managerial roles for over 20 years, but she often spoke of her time at the state psychiatric hospital, where she met the love of her life, James Palmer III. Mary was also a devoted member of St. Paul Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving in various ways, but most notably as an usher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Pauline (McAffe) Respress; her siblings; her late husband, James Palmer III; her adopted daughter, Loretta Nicholson; and her son, Brian K. Palmer.

Mary is survived by her sons, Vincent and James Palmer IV; her daughter-in-law, Lori A. Wilburn (Brian); her granddaughter, Briana K. Palmer; her grandson, Alejandro Palmer; her adopted grandchildren, Darnia Nicholson, LaTasha Smith, and Theodore "TJ" Traylor; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Dale Riggs Funeral Home, located at 572 Nebraska Avenue, Toledo, OH 43604, on February 5, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to give their condolences. The wake service will be at St. Paul Baptist Church, located at 1502 N, Detroit Avenue, Toledo, OH 43607, on February 6, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Dr. James H. Willis, Sr. pastor. Interment at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, located at 1502 Central Ave, Toledo, OH 43606. Family and close friends are welcome to return to St. Paul for the repass.
