Michael Karp Obituary

Michael David Karp

04/01/1953 - 12/29/2024

Michael David Karp of Marietta, GA, passed away suddenly on December 26, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on April 1, 1953, and raised in Toledo, Ohio, he graduated from DeVilbiss High School 1971, and earned his BS degree from Kent State 1975. He went on to a successful career with The Office of Naval Research in Atlanta, GA, for over 35 years.

Mike was a cherished uncle who was the ultimate organizer of family gatherings, Sig Tau fraternity reunions, and those who share his passion in anything team sports. He was a devoted fan of Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians (formerly the Cleveland Indians), Kent State and Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia, especially autographed baseballs from many sport luminaries and baseball legends. A lifetime member of Kent State Sig Tau Gamma and caretaker of the frat's gavel, he was the glue that kept his fraternity family together for 50 years.

Michael is survived by his sister, Sharon Beil; and nephews, along with their families, Richard Levin (wife, Carrie Levin, and sons, Joshua and Yuri); Howard Beil (and children, Dylan and Kyla); Robert Beil (husband, Roberto Fernandez); great nieces, Jackie Stallings (husband, Tim, and children, Ryan and Olivia); and Stefanie Carson (husband, Frank Weed, and children, Logan, Benjamin and Jacob). He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Rose Karp; and sister, Beryl Levin.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2025, at 11 a.m., at the Anshai Sfard Cemetery located within the Eagle Point Cemetery, 515 Eagle Point Rd, Rossford, OH 43460. Family suggests bringing stories and photographs to share. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Sig Tau Foundation or charity of your choice.

Mike and I were buddies as kids on Oakwood Ave. I remember playing at his house. He was a lot of fun and missed him when they moved away. Rest in peace my old friend.

Mike has been a close friend since the 1960s. Although a year younger, Mike desperately wanted to befriend our close-knit, neurotic card-playing gang. To accomplish this, Mike had to tolerate countless sophomoric acts of stupidity on our part, not well disguised a lengthy induction ceremony to become a member. Still, Mike was desperate to become a friend. So it came to be that he joined our gang, which for many years accomplished nothing at all of material value. But we learned how to trust each other, and how to sometimes behave like a mensch. Mike was loyal to a fault. Once a friend, always a friend. While we ended up in separate directions, in Mike's mind, we were still always together. Thank you, Mike. We'll miss your sense of humor, your loyal and constant friendship. It turns out that the honor, all these years, was all ours, Mike. We'll miss you!

Celia and I were saddened to learn of Michael“s passing. He was a gentleman with a tremendous sense of humor.
I have known Michael, whose crew name was "The Fish," since we were kids. We hung out in high school and enjoyed many crazy episodes with Terry, Ken, Chuck, and Richie. Since he was the youngest among us, he was always the victim of our practical jokes, and never complained.
We all loved Michael, and he will always be remembered by us, and never forgotten. RIP old friend, Chuck "Oz" Weissfeld and Celia
