Michael Laskey
August 2, 1967 - October 5, 2023
Michael Xavier Laskey, 56, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away October 5th, 2023, due to a car accident. He was born August 2nd, 1967, in Toledo, Ohio, to his parents, John and Rallene Laskey. Mike was number six of eight children, a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. Mike was a proud graduate of St. John's Jesuit High School, embodying the motto "A man for others" throughout his life. He attended Ohio State University 1985-1988, and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He transferred to Bowling Green State University and graduated with a BA in Communication and Marketing, where he used his degree and skills in every aspect of his life. Woven into Mike's DNA was an unconditional service to others and dedication to helping them achieve their goals. He was an avid reader, always growing and improving himself. He loved to exercise, bike, ski, roller blade and travel, making new lifelong friends everywhere he went.
For Mike, family and friends were the greatest joys in life. He cherished his bonds with his parents, siblings, and the extended Laskey family, and he had a remarkable ability to be genuine and make everyone feel valued and loved, filling every gathering with infectious laughter. He believed in meaningful relationships, always interested in "who" people were. All of his efforts had the same common goal . . .to bring people together.
Mike was quite the jokester, he was a clown without the makeup. Donning costumes to raise money for various charities, ill friends and even to help someone propose marriage, anything for a laugh. He was definitely comfortable in his own skin.
He had an unwavering entrepreneurial spirit and had more ideas than Thomas Edison, brimming with new ideas daily. He owned Toledo T's a screen printing company from 1993-2003 and then owned and managed The Business Advantage newspaper from 2003-2007. He used his love for words to not only inform the Toledo community but also unite people-a common thread in all his endeavors. Most recently he became a driver for Amazon, a job that brought him so much joy, through his "crew" members and the customers he got to interact with. He loved "delivering happiness."
From 2000 to 2023, philanthropy and volunteer work played a significant role in Mike's life. He mentored with Big Brothers & Big Sisters and served as a spiritual guide to Toledo's disadvantaged youth. He gave his time to many, many other organizations, he volunteered everywhere he went, never needing to be asked.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire us to be better friends, better family members, and better human beings. He will be remembered not only for his humor and wit but for his dedication to bringing people together and his tireless commitment to making the world a better place.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Rallene Laskey; brothers, Greg and Bill Laskey; and nephew, Jon Foster. He is survived by his father, John Laskey; step mother, Gretta Laskey; sisters, Chris Foster, Laurie Laskey, Gaylene Klotz, Kelly (Matt) Mangas and Kori Clausen; brothers, Steve (Jeanette) Laskey, Brett Laskey, and Jason Keefer; his "Little Brother", Shon'Dell Gibson, who brought him so much joy; as well as 17 nieces, nephews, and several cousins that he was very close to.
A visitation Celebration of Life will be held at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio 43614, on Sunday, October 22nd, from 12-4 p.m. followed by a gathering at The Pinnacle. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to
