Michelle Lowery Obituary

Michelle Mattoni Lowery

August 11, 1979 - May 21, 2024

Michelle Mattoni Lowery, 45, passed away on May 21, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She was born on August 11, 1979, and brought joy, laughter, and a lifetime of memories in the short years we had her. Michelle grew up in Maumee, Ohio and graduated from Maumee High School. She was a life-long fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and made sure that you knew it, but she went on to receive her master's degree in Sociology at Bowling Green State University. She put that degree to excellent use as an advocate for the Lucas County Civil Rights Commission for many years, serving those less fortunate and in need. It was a position that brought her so much pride and was a testament to the inherent nature of her giving and caring heart.

Michelle enjoyed a second career cooking for friends and family that led to Mangia Meals, a service for the busy working families that craved a delicious homemade meal delivered to their doorstep. Michelle created her own meals or used tried and true recipes from her father, Joe, or her grandmother's large Italian family. That crazy Italian family remained close, and it wasn't unusual to have a crowd for that last minute gnocchi party at the Lowery's with flour, potatoes, and laughter everywhere in that bright yellow kitchen. Holiday dinners will forever be different without Michelle directing the meal and encouraging "a little tasty taste" with the good bread.

Michelle had the biggest and best posse of loyal friends. She would do anything for them, and they for her. Many were "sisters" to her, and she thought of them all like family. She was "Aunt Michelle" to many of their children.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, and by her loving and adored best friend and father, Joseph Mattoni, who "worked" side by side with Michelle in her meal delivery business. They could often be heard singing (loudly and off key) to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Connie Francis while they cooked. The loss of her dad was a tremendous blow that Michelle would not recover from. Being together again is a small comfort to our grieving family.

She is survived by her mother, Stephanie; and her brother, Michael. Michelle also leaves behind aunts, uncles, as well as a many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews from the Mattoni, Mazzurco, and Lowery families. Fur babies Vinny and Gary will miss her forever. Her loss has left a void that will not ever be filled and the world will remain far too quiet without the peals of her infectious laughter…and snorts.

A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio on Saturday, June 22nd, 10 a.m. In honor of Michelle and her beloved father, when you see a penny, pick it up. If it's heads, good luck to you. If it's tails, turn it over and leave for others to find.
