WHITEHOUSE 1944-45

Dear family ....Please accept my sincere condolences in the loss of your loved one.
Nova May and I were in first grade together and her grandparents, the Schillings, were our closest neighbor who lived just across the road in Whitehouse. They had milk cows so my family would purchase milk from them for twenty five cents a gallon.
There were eight in our family so we usually purchased more than one gallon. Nova May was often at her grandparents and she would help me carry the extra gallons home. That was before pasteurization so I would often swipe the cream off the top and get her promise not to tell. Shen ever did and I made a friend.
The lots then were then zoned for farming of 20 and 40 acres where the houses were built in distant proximity to each other which provided maximum privacy. Ma and Pa Schilling's house was the only one in our vision so if we got the chance to play with anyone outside the family it was Dennis, Eddie, and Nova May.
I miss my old friend and I knew she must be headed home because she's been strongly on my mind in recent weeks...wondering why we never called her just Nova...it was always Nova May.
May God be with you in your time of bereavement.

I remember how she and Betty Miller would take turns picking Tim and me up from morning kindergarten, and dropping Jeff off for afternoon kindergarten, because my mom didn't drive, and there were no middle-of-the-day buses back then. Thanks, Nova and Betty!
