Paul Nagy Obituary

NAGY

Dr. Paul D.

Dr. Paul D. Nagy, 54, of Fremont died Saturday morning at his home. He was born

on January 5, 1960, the son of Frank and Virginia (Zolchiak) Nagy. Dr. Nagy

obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Case Western Reserve and spent his junior year abroad in Salzburg,

Austria. He completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at The Ohio State University; did a one-year medical residency at the Medical University of Ohio, and worked for several years at Community Health Services in Fremont. Dr. Nagy completed his

training in orthodontics at St. Louis University. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, The American Dental Association, Ohio Dental Association, North Central Ohio Dental Society, The Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Dr. Nagy enjoyed cycling, walking, and was an avid supporter of St. Joe basketball.

Dr. Nagy's interest in serving the community started in high school. He was an Eagle Scout, volunteered in Appalachia and provided dental services in Haiti. Paul

continued to actively support

local organizations and spent several years coaching CYO basketball for Sacred Heart. He was compassionate and selfless.

Surviving is his wife, Ellen Nagy of Fremont, OH; children, Hannah and Simon Nagy both of Fremont; mother, Virginia Nagy of Perrysburg, OH; brother, Thomas Nagy (Diane) of Cincinnati, OH; sister, Janet Page of Silver Springs, MD. He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will take place starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 206 N. Park Avenue, Fremont, OH. Memorial services will begin at 4 p.m. at the church. Wearing of black is discouraged as the family is celebrating Paul's life. Fr. Daniel Orr and Rev. Paul Stark will

officiate. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider donations to Life Connection of Ohio or Liberty Center, and to think strongly about becoming an organ donor.

Arrangements have been

entrusted to Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, OH. Online condolences may be expressed at

Paul was one of the guys in high school at St. John's who welcomed everyone, nearly always had a smile, and had his feet on the ground. One of the guys you wanted to hang out with. Love and prayers to Ellen and the whole family.

January 30, 2014

Paul was a wonderful colleague who will be missed by fellow healthcare providers and the community. It was always a pleasure to converse with him about mutual patients and family. I have known him since he came to Fremont as a public health dentist. I was thrilled when he returned after his orthodontic training. I learned of his passing through a cell phone call from Jim Burson, DDS on Saturday morning while my wife and I were cross country skiing. After our conversation, I had to return to our outdoor adventure on a beautiful winter morning because I knew Paul would want us to embrace the moment and live.

Dr. Nagy spirit truly inspired the best in everyone he met. I remember his early years working at CHS. Two of my sons were blessed to have had him change their appearance through braces. Dr. Nagy even voiced how my younger son Christopher's case "was one of the most complicated he had ever come across". My son has received numerous compliments about his smile...people have no idea how much work went into it. May we all consider organ donation as a tribute to him!! My prayers are with the family and staff. As a nurse I know how close one can become to your physician. We will miss you Dr. Nagy! Pray for us so that we can also be a light to others.

Our sympathy to the friends, family and staff of Dr. Nagy. He was a wonderful person and Dr. We have spent much time in his office over the years having him complete orthodontia on four of our children and then in beginning treatment for myself and Dr. Nagy always made it a pleasant experience. I remember when one of my sons was having issues with his invisoline that he was wearing and I didn't realize that he quit wearing them all together and he was terrified that Dr. Nagy would be upset with him; while at the next appointment Dr. Nagy was not only very encouraging to my so and showed genuine concern but also assisted in adjusting the invisoline so that the issue he was having could be corrected so that he would be more comfortable with the device. I will always remember his kindness and empathy towards us as a family.

I recieved my braces from Dr. Nagy and he was such a kind doctor through the 2 1/2 years I had them! I still have a fond memory of when I wore my rubber bands everyday for a month, to pull down a tooth that was too high, and he was so proud of the progress I made! I can't tell you how many times my friends and I would start talking about our braces and he was the name that always came up and everything we said was always positive! I will keep your family in my prayers! Doctor Nagy really made a difference in my life!

Paul was one of my dearest friends. When I walked into the dorm at Case Western Reserve, I was afraid of being in a strange place, having never lived away from home. Paul was the first friend that I met. We spent many hours talking and going to parties. He came home with me a few times to visit Boston and went to Perrysburg for Easter. He was always well dressed in preppy clothes from working at the clothing store in town. When we graduated, Paul would visit me in everywhere that I worked, Baton Rouge, Syracuse, and of course Boston. I am ever so grateful to have seen him this past summer in Fremont. To say that we celebrated life together would be an understatement. I will miss this vibrant man who was my dear friend and brother. The work has lost a wonderful soul.

January 28, 2014

Our condolences to the family, we are sorry to hear about his passing.
Please let me share our experience with him. Our son was referred to Dr. Nagy by our dentist a few years ago. At the time we thought he was going to need braces because of an overbite. Both Dr. Nagy and our dentist agreed he would need braces when he was older, but we had to wait until he lost his baby teeth. Every so many months, my son would have an exam including x-rays and we were never charged any money. Dr. Nagy said that there wouldn't be any charges until he actually had the braces put on. Fast forward a few years....we had anticipated having to spend the money for braces for our son. Much to our delight and surprise (and blessing from God), Dr. Nagy felt his overbite was not a major issue anymore because of the way his mouth developed through puberty. Dr. Nagy said in his opinion, our son no longer needed braces...we were utterly amazed! We then took our son back to our family dentist who originally referred him. Our dentist also agreed that if it were his child he wouldn't put braces on. All this to say, after all the years with Dr. Nagy treating our son.....he NEVER charged us ANYTHING because our son ended up not needing the braces after all. My husband and I just couldn't grasp that he said "no charges, you don't owe anything". We told everyone we knew whose children needed braces that he was the man to go to because he is a man of INTEGRITY and not just out to make a buck.
