Philip Semler Obituary

Philip Donald Semler

Philip Donald Semler, was born on September 6, 1950, in Toledo, Ohio, to Herman A. Semler and Dorothy M. (Suhrweier) Semler-Mack. He passed away on August 14, 2025, at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was a cherished member of his community and family, known for his infectious spirit and unwavering dedication to his work and loved ones.

A proud 1968 graduate of Woodward High School, Philip began his career at Ford Motor Company, where he worked diligently for 31 years before retiring. His colleagues recognized him as the High-Low driver could pick up a dime using his fork truck. Philip was deeply involved with the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 1892, where he served many years as a committee man and financial secretary. His commitment to the union included vital contributions to negotiating both local and national contracts, showcasing his dedication to the rights of workers.

In addition to his work at Ford, Phil made a positive impact on young people's lives by serving as a substitute school bus driver for Toledo Public Schools, which he carried out part-time with the same dedication he exhibited in all aspects of his life.

Phil was honorably discharged from the Marines in late 1968. His love for his country never faltered. Though he was known as a hard worker, he was also known to be the life of the party, always ready with a joke or a silly story that could light up a room. His passions included being an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, never missing a game, and supporting the Ohio State Buckeyes during college football season.

He married the love of his life in 1971, Diane L. (Scurlock) Semler, whom he affectionately referred to as "his honey." Together they built a loving family that he was immensely proud of.

Philip is survived by his children, Tonia (Tracy) Spitulski, Kevin (Stefanie) Semler, and Angie Herman; his grandchildren, Nichole (Ron) Otterson, Brittney (Matt) Spitulski, Kaylee (Brandon) Enck, Taylor (Jake) Enck, Jeffery (Grace) Enck, Cadence (Austin) Enck, Stevielynn Herman, Jackie Herman, Amanda (Cody) Ten Eyck, and Justin Semler. He was also adored by his great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Griffin, Rory, and Ellanor. Phil is survived by his sister, Judy (Tom) Davenport and Sharon (Bob) Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Diane Semler; and his brother, Bob Semler.

Visitation for Philip will take place on August 22, 2025, 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Toledo, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614.
