Richard Huffer Obituary
Richard W. Huffer, age 80 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at Heartland Holly Glenn. He was born in Toledo on May 25, 1937 to Roscoe and Madeline Huffer. Richard graduated from Whitmer High School and Bowling Green State University. He was a teacher with Washington Local Schools for 24 years at Wernert Elementary and 18 years at Jefferson Jr. High School. Richard was very active with Washington Junior Football League, unofficially since 1959 and officially since 1962. He worked both at Wernert Wildcats and with the football League. Richard was the League Treasurer since 1967. He also founded the Wildcat Booster Club. Richard was also very active with Trilby Baseball Association from 1960 to 1979 where he served as vice chairman, secretary, treasurer and coached the team for 19 years.
Richard served as treasurer of the original Washington Teachers Organization and served as building rep. from Wernert Elementary and from Jefferson Jr. High. His memberships included TAWLA (Teachers Assoc. Washington Local Schools) and WLS Retiree Group.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Madeline Huffer; and very special friend, Myrtle J. Voyles. He is survived by special friend, Kay Langolis.
Richard's legacy will live on through his football family in the Washington Jr. Football League.
Memorial visitation for Richard will be at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd. on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

It has been many decades since I sat in Mr. Huffer's classroom at Wernert School, but all my memories of him are vivid and grateful. He took his vocation as our teacher very seriously, and was blessed with a sharp mind, a quick wit, and an uncomplicated kind of friendliness. God bring comfort to all those sorrowing at his loss. I'll never forget him.
