Robert Hudik Obituary

Robert "Bob" Hudik

Robert "Bob" Hudik, of Berkey, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 11. Born on November 30, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, Bob was the son of Frances and Jerry Hudik. He resided in Berkey and Metamora, Ohio for most of his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Joan; as well as his brother, Jerry Hudik; and sister, Frances Wertz. He is survived by his son, Ronald (Laurie) Hudik; son, Jerry Hudik; and daughter, Jennifer (Juergen) Kortberg.

Bob was a Marine Corps veteran passionate about supporting our troops and veterans. He spent 30 years working at the General Motors plant in Toledo before retiring in 1989, and was an accomplished lead guitar player who was part of multiple bands in the area for 42 years.

Bob cherished his role as a husband and father and was immensely proud of his five grandchildren: Julia and Kirstin Kortberg, Nicholas Hudik, Ryan and Karissa Hudik. He loved sharing stories with them for hours, playing their favorite songs on his guitar, laughing at bad scary movies, giving advice on how to fix things, and cheering them on at their activities. He found joy in life's simple pleasures like mowing the lawn on his John Deere and spending weekends watching football.

Details will be forthcoming for a celebration of Bob's life to be held in the spring.

Hello Bob - I know you play on in heaven - maybe tears in heaven - maybe take me home country roads .... anyway....it was an honor to have gotten to know you while you were walking this earth. Your house was always an open door and it felt always like family being with you. We shared a lot of fun moments with people we love - we played guitar - while my skills are far beyond yours - you were always like a rock in the sea - no wave no cloud could shake you up . Although the moments were few - and it's never enough - they are burnt in my memory and my brain chip forever. And I now lots of moments are in other peoples brain - especially your kids - your grandkids and that what makes us live forever. Freddy Mercury asked : Who wants to live forever ? Yes we do - in the heart of our beloved ones - that's what makes us eternal. We will see us some time again and sure play a couple of songs - along with a good cold beer. Cheers - Peter

He was the embodiment of goodness and decency - Kind, loving and warm. He found joy in life´s simplest pleasures: Strumming a ballad on his guitar, Mowing the lawn on his John Deere, spending a Sunday afternoon watching football, a cup of coffee in the morning while watching the news, laughing at a bad scary movie, a scoop of sherbet ice cream from the corner store, supporting our troops/veterans and telling us stories about his childhood. I could sit on his couch and listen to him tell stories for hours. He loved to share stories, and we loved nothing more than to sit and listen to them. He had a gift for embracing life at a gentle pace.
He was immensely proud of his kids and grandkids, but the truth is, we were even prouder of him. He didn´t realize how extraordinary he was in our eyes-a gentle giant with unwavering character, kindness, and commitment to always doing what was right. Without question, he was our favorite person, and we can only aspire to be half as good as he was.

Papa Bob -
God heard you were coming, and I have no doubt you received a fast pass to Heavens gates. 31 years with you was a gift, and I will cherish every moment of it forever. You are my daily reminder to slow down and enjoy the little things in life. Your stories will live on, and I will tell my kids one day how extraordinary their great grandpa was. We love you, we miss you already, and I look forward to the day we are reunited in Heaven. Until then, I will go write the rest of my story and I can´t wait to share it with you on the other side.

"Bopa" .... you have forever made a HUGE impact in my life. You have absolutely made a mold for your grandchildren of how a man should be. You have forever remained an icon to your family and friends ....
The man that played his guitar from his soul.
The man whose smile lights up the room when he talks about not only his children but most definitely his grandchildren.
Being the "ex" daughter in law ...this man NEVER made it uncomfortable and I fact I'll forever be thankful because of him , we have all became friends, always with a common love for this amazing man.
Since you're passing, there have been too many times i still want to call to brag about your amazing grandkids and then i remember.... you already know. Bob you are so missed! Ray and I and of course Nick have been so very blessed to have been blessed to have had you in our lives. Love you always Bopa. Never ever will you be forgotten.

Mary Clare and I met Bob when Jennifer, Juergen, Julia and Kirstin were our neighbors in South Carolina. We golfed, had more than our share of beers and just had alot of good times with Bob! We visited him in the metropolis of Berkey, even staying at his house jamming with his band Northern Comfort! We even play his CD from time to time and will continue to do so to remember our friend. We used to call him when we sat on our deck and shoot the breeze! You will be missed old friend but never forgotten!!

Bob and I have been neighbors for years. He has always been proud of his yard, working in it most days. For the last few years, my granddaughters have been mowing mine. Bob would mow on Friday, my granddaughters would mow over the weekend, and as sure as God made little green apples, Bob would mow on Monday. His grass just had to be shorter than mine! I am going to miss that man. Rest in peace Bob

Bob´s humble, but confident spirit was such a great energy to be around. He could light up a space with his guitar playing I witnessed for the family Oktoberfest parties. I loved when he would smile and laugh when he was around his family. The love was palpable. A great dad to my friend, Jennifer.

My grandpa is at the core of my fondest childhood memories. Spending summers in Berkey, swimming in the pool, going to watch him play at the chicken bbq and especially all of our summer vacations are some of the most treasured memories of my life. My grandpa always made it a point to show up at all of our games, concerts, recitals, and every event, he made everyone feel seen and loved. He is so missed, but he is resting peacefully up in heaven with his Joanie
