Robert E.
Robert E. Sparks, age 60, of Toledo passed away suddenly May 9, 2016 in his home. He was born October 7, 1955 in Toledo to Don and Faye (Swartz) Sparks. A 1973 graduate of Whitmer High School, he was a sales representative in the food industry and was currently with Vasko. A devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather he instilled in his sons that “You get out what you put in.” Bob was active in Pilgrim Church's Shabbott ministry which was an outreach to feed the homeless. He was a past youth baseball coach in Trilby and helped build Dubendorfer Field. He was an avid golfer who taught the sport to his children. Bob was a very caring man and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed
nature and caring for animals, especially Layla and Leo.
Surviving is his wife, Sally; sons, Jason (Katie), Justin, Joshua and Jordan (Erin) Sparks; grandchildren, Leah, Sydney, Noah and Braylee; his parents; sister, Sandra Sparks; and aunt, Lynn Kessler.
Friends may visit the family on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., (west of Corey) where a memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. The family suggests
memorials in Bob's memory be made to the Cherry St. Mission, 105 17th St., Toledo, Ohio 43604 or the Toledo Humane Society 827 Illinois Ave., Maumee, Ohio 43537. Condolences to the family may be shared at

My heartfelt condolences to Bob's family. I also went to grade school and high school with him. Over the years I've seen him here and there. He always took the time to talk to me. Always was a super nice guy!!! May your cherished memories bring you all some comfort. God Bless!!!

Sally and Jordan and the rest of the family I am so very sorry! It broke my heart when I heard the news. He wasn't just the grumpy man next door to us (haha just kidding) but a very thoughtfull and compassionate man who our family grew to love! Sally I absolutely adore you and if there is anything at all we can do don't hesitate to ask, even if you just need someone to talk to! The boys have been thinking of you guys too!

It was with great heart break that I heard of Bob's passing. I'm at a loss for words. Sparky was the one guy that I thought would outlive us all because of his zest for life. I'm so sorry for his family's loss & the Whitmer family loss. So many classmates & friends will mourn Bob's passing. RIP Bob, my old friend. I'll miss you greatly.

DON AND FAYE; So sorry to hear of your loss. There are never any words that help at this time. A Pastor once told me the deeper the hurt the founder the memories. I believe in that.

I remember how many times he helped me work on my bike ,and when he got his Harley that was both on and off road and let me ride it and it wasn't a week old. Just a great guy never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He will be truly missed. RIP Bobby, my friend. Till we meet again.

Just want to give all my best in this tough time to the sparks family. Been an honor to know and talk to Bob all these years. Spent a lot of time at his house as a kid and am lucky enough to call his boys my brothers. Rest peacefully with the Lord my friend. I love you all!

I remember Bob as a kind soul with a great sense of humor. We spent a few summers together during high school playing basketball and baseball. He was quick witted, intelligent, and most of all so very kind to all people. There isn't a doubt that his passing will resonate throughout the entire Whitmer Class of '73 as he touched so many lives. There's a special place in Heaven for good men like Bob. You'll be forever missed and remembered my friend.
