Robert Warnke Obituary

WARNKE
Robert William
Robert William Warnke of Toledo peacefully passed away on November 4, 2016. He was born to Harold and Gladys Warnke on August 20, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio and grew up in the old west end. He graduated from Scott High School, while enjoying the sports of golf and bowling. Bob worked at Chevrolet and Dana, and attended the University of Toledo for two years, until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1948. Bob served in the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles and received a commendation for sharp shooting, with an honorable discharge in 1951. Bob rejoined Dana Corporation as a draftsman, ushered his company into the age of computer programming, and worked in corporate planning until he retired in 1989. Bob met his wife, Beverly, at Dana Corp. and married on Valentine's Day in 1953.
Bob was a man of few words, but had a deep love for family and country. He enjoyed being around family, loving summer picnics and holidays. Bob and Beverly were avid bridge players, and led a bridge card group at the Eleanor Kahle Senior Center. They made lifelong friends in the group. Bob enjoyed listening to the Detroit Tigers baseball on the radio, reading the newspaper, and helping his children and grandchildren with their mathematics homework. He enjoyed watching military documentaries, participating on the Dana's baseball team, and loved to eat anything chocolate.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly, of 63 years; and is survived by children, Cindy (Hans) Poehlmann, Bob (Florence), Steve, and Jim; grandchildren, Julianne (Dan) Dunphy, John (Ashley) Warnke, Jeff Warnke, John Poehlmann and Sarah Poehlmann; sister, Virginia (Bill) Cunningham; brother, Richard (Juanita) Warnke.
