Roger Huffman Obituary

HUFFMAN Roger Lee Sr. Roger Lee Huffman Sr., 68, of Liberty Center and formerly of Holland, passed away on October 16, 2008, at his home with loving family at his side. Roger was born April 2, 1940, in Toledo to the late George and Audrey (Dixon) Huffman. He married Fran "Beatty" Richard on May 30, 1959, in Holland and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela (Randy) Wirick, Swanton and Cindy Drinkwater, Holland; one son, Roger (Jenny) Huffman Jr., Toledo; six grandchildren, Kristen (Jason) Scasny, Daniel Wirick, Jessica and Becka Drinkwater, Amanda and Britten Huffman; three great-grand-children, Olivia Scasny, Kaylee Emch and Addison Huffman; one brother, Larry (Joyce) Huffman, Holland and one sister, Debbie (Scott) Short, Toledo. Roger retired on January 1, 1999, from Ford Motor Company as a millwright after 25 of employment. He had also been employed at Chrysler in Perrysburg and Unicast in Toledo. He was member of the Grand Rapids Sons of the American Legion, Grand Rapids Sportsmen Club, and the Moose Lodge in Ft. Myers, FL. Roger was a volunteer Fireman for 20 years at the Springfield Township #2 Station. He enjoyed raising a garden, working with perennials and entertaining friends boating on the Maumee River from Grand Rapids to the Florida Bridge. Roger had attended the Kenton Coon Dog Trials every year since childhood and was an avid fan of George Jones. He and his wife were snowbirds for 15 years to Ft. Myers for 6 months a year. Roger found his greatest enjoyment in the love of his wife and will be remembered for his love and devotion to Beatty and their children. He wanted all to know that his loving wife was much more than that; she was his buddy and best friend. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-7 p.m. in the Wright-Hobbs Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, where funeral services to celebrate Roger's life will begin at 7 p.m. The Rev. Mark Montgomery will preside. Private interment will take place at Swanton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Henry County. The family would like to thank Cindy Christy of Hospice of Henry County, Roger's "Guardian Angel", for her loving care. Online condolences can be expressed at www.wright-hobbs.com

Fran, Pam, Cindy and RJ;
Roger was a one of a kind man, one of the nicest men I have ever had the privelege of meeting. If he didn't have a kind word to say, then he just said nothing. May your fondest memories bring your some form of strength and comfort in the days to come.

With much love and sympathy,
Lisa, Gary, Amanda and Addison
