Ruth Frazen Obituary

FRAZEN Ruth Ruth Eichman Frazen, age 91, of West Park Place, died on February 4, 2007. She was born in Toledo on November 18, 1915, the second daughter of Samuel and Emily (Henrion) Eichman. Ruth graduated from DeVilbiss High School and attended the University of Toledo. Outgoing and helpful, she enjoyed working with the public at the Lucas County Welfare Department. She loved traveling and after retirement delighted in trips to Europe, Canada, Mexico, and Hawaii. She spent many winters with family in Arizona and Florida. Ruth was a generous volunteer who served as Den mother for her son's (Dean) Cub Scout troop and was active in support of his DeMolay chapter. She was also active in her daughter's (Diane) membership in Girl Scouts and Rainbow Girls. For many years, she did volunteer work for the Red Cross, Riverside Hospital and the Flower Hospital Guild. She was an exceptional cook and was featured in a Blade article on church suppers. She baked award winning kumquat pies for family and friends. Ruth maintained a large number of long-time friendships in many states through letters and cards. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Ruth's special hobby was collecting antique buttons, winning awards for her displays of picture buttons with themes from children's verses and operas. She belonged to the Buckeye Button Society and enjoyed giving presentations about her collection. Ruth was an active life member of Alpha Omega Pi Sorority and the DeVilbiss Class of 1934 luncheon group. For over 50 years she participated in a monthly poker and bunco club, continuing that tradition with nightly card games at West Park Place where she also served as a resident ambassador. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Diane Frazen of Toledo and son, Dean (Elizabeth) Frazen of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia; grandchildren, Michael Frazen of Boise, Idaho and Deborah Frazen of Gilroy, California; niece, Karen (Dave) Pugh; nephew, John (Kathryn) Zeitler and great-nephews, David Pugh and William and Harrison Zeitler. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Eichman and Lucile (Woodrow) Zeitler. There will be a memorial celebration of Ruth's life at West Park Place on Executive Parkway on Saturday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank Ruth's caregivers at West Park Place and Odyssey Hospice. Memorial gifts may be made to Odyssey Hospice, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or the Arthritis Foundation.

I was so sorry to hear of Ruth's passing! I saw her not too long ago at West Park Place, and she had on her usual warm smile, always gracious. She was the epitome of what a social worker should be in retirement age- understanding and patient!

I joked with her recently that, with the addition of one letter, my married name will be the same as hers later this year. A sweet lady, fun to spend time with. I'll miss her. Sincerely, Ruth Greenberg, Jewish Family Service

We will always remember Ruth for her sweet, personable ways. I'm sure she will be sorely missed by all of her friends and staff at West Park Place.

So sorry,Ruth that I did not get over to visit before Gene and I left for Florida in December. Since Adaleona died, the memories of her and my mom have just been too much. And now you. What a lovely person you were! I so enjoyed you, your sisters and Diane when you came out to our home for the Rosenberger Reunions. What good times we all had, even the first time when you got lost and spent 1 1/2 hours trying to find our place. Our deepest sympathies to Diane and your son. You'll be in our thoughts, especially on 3/10/07 when the memorial is planned at West Park Place. Much Love, Sandy and Gene Wasielewski
