Samuel Ball Obituary

BALL

Samuel Thomas III

On December 22, 2014, Sam Ball passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness. Born in Louisville, Kentucky and raised in several southern states, he came to the Toledo area as a sales representative. After meeting and marrying the woman who was unabashedly the love of his life, he revived his interest in photography and established his own business, Photography by Sam, retiring in 2005. Sam became an active member in, and freely gave of his time serving on the boards of, local camera clubs and professional photography organizations.

Family, friends and acquaintances will remember Sam for his ready wit and generous heart, not to mention his passion for cooking and travel. Sam and his wife, Joyce Blanton, were able to enjoy many trips to Europe, especially France, as well as visits to Brazil and Asia. They shared their love of food, wine and France as members of the Alliance Française of Toledo and enjoyed opening their home to many joyful Bastille Day parties. Sam was also inducted in the local chapter of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.

He adored being Gramps to his two little granddaughters who brought him so much joy.

As a man who brought so much laughter and fun wherever he went, Sam will be sorely missed by his wife, Joyce; stepsons Victor (Suzy) Blanton, Brian (Lisa) Blanton and Gary Blanton; little Phoebe and Clara; his mother, Dorothy Ball, and sister, Patricia (Richard) Randall; so many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in Urbanski's Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI with a Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. Cremation has taken place.

Dearest Joyce - our hearts ache for your loss and the loss of a dear friend. Our thoughts are with you.

Sam was a friend of mine before
meeting you. He was a fun loving guy
and a wonderful cook. I received a call from a friend in Toledo that had seen the obituary. Our mutual friends from the past were visiting me and we pulled up the details of Sam's passing. He talked about you, Joyce, when first meeting you, and I was so happy to see he had a good and happy life together with you. My sincere sympathy goes out to you. I still can't believe he is gone. Dear Joyce, I am so sorry I couldn't attend the memorial for Sam this past Monday. As you know I was working in Bowling Green and it ran into the evening. I really respected Sam and learned so much from him over the years. He was a good friend, and a generous mentor. We enjoyed many lunches together talking shop and food and wine and travel and all things fun.I am so sorry for your loss.

We were so sorry to read about Sam's passing. He photographed our wedding nearly 25 years ago and left us with many precious pictures. He was truly an artist and we so appreciated the way he captured our special day. May he rest in peace and may all of his family be comforted in this time of loss.

My dear Joyce! There are no words to describe what I am feeing now! There is so much that we have shared and so many great times to remember. It is hard to believe that within fours years we both lost our wonderful husbands. You have hard times ahead of you but I know that at some point the wound will heal but you will never forgot! My heart aches again for a loss in my life but I will never foget the wonderful, fun times we had as single parents and as two martied couples. My sincere sympathies to you and your family.
