Scott Backus

Scott William Backus passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2020, at his home in Holland Ohio. Scott worked harder than most, always with a smile on his face, and loved his life and family.

Scott was born to William Grant and Marguerite Jane Backus on April 3, 1955 in Fort Wayne Indiana. He grew up there alongside younger sisters Barbara and Carol and graduated from New Haven High in 1973.

In the early 80s, he joined the family business in Toledo founded by grandfather Stanley and great grandfather AG Moore. Upon their passing in 1985, Scott partnered with uncle Craig Moore and by the mid 90's, he became CEO of Moore Chrome Products. Their efforts led to expansion, a move from Toledo's Central Ave. to Silica Rd. in Sylvania and a name change: Moore Metal Finishing. Years of growth, success and strong relationships with customers, suppliers and employees gave Scott a great sense of pride and accomplishment.

Scott married the love of his life Rebecca in 1998. She was with him when he passed. He also loved "The Cottage" on Crooked Lake in Angola, Indiana, a family getaway since his childhood. It gave him such joy to share this with his own children: water skiing, congregating on the deck or around the bonfire talking with friends and family.

He is survived by Rebecca; sisters, Barbara and Carol; and sons, Grant and Arden.

His greatest legacy will be his attitude and demeanor. He was never in a hurry, always quick to smile and laugh: not a mean bone in his body. He will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved to have fun, loved his family and made everyone he met feel special.

A private memorial service is planned for summer 2021.
