Heather Michele Backus, 48, went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Heather was born on June 10, 1977, in Amarillo, TX to Beverly Brannon. She was the only daughter of 4 kids. Heather grew up in Amarillo where she attended Palo Duro High School and met the love of her life Chad Backus. Heather graduated in 1995 and she and Chad were married on April 27, 1996. After years of praying, in 2004 they welcomed their first daughter, Kaytlin, followed in 2006 by their second daughter, Reagann. In 2008 they completed their family with the arrival of their son Kellen.
Heather spent the following years living the life she had always prayed for - she homeschooled her children and loved and cared for her family. As a young girl, Heather accepted Jesus as her Savior and as an adult she joyfully served her Savior. As a member of Arden Road Baptist Church, she faithfully severed in the kitchen crew, J.O.Y, Little Lambs, Sunday School, Children’s Church, and ARBT.
Heather was sweet and ornery, sassy and sarcastic, blunt and honest. She was loving, caring, funny, and witty—full of grace and mercy. Heather had a gift for making people feel safe and seen, always ready to give a mama hug even if she wasn’t your mama. If you were in her circle, she loved you big and without hesitation.
She was a talker, a servant at heart, overly clean, and endlessly patient. Heather lived out fully every role she held—devoted wife, loving mom, cherished daughter, niece, sister, cousin, friend, and aunt. Her love showed up loudly, faithfully, and generously, and her presence left a mark that will never be forgotten.
Heather is survived by her husband Chad Backus, her three children, Kaytlin, Reagann, Kellen, a godson T’Challa, mother Beverly Brannon, stepfather Bud Brannon, in-laws John and Cindy Backus, two brothers Tom(Pete) and wife Brittany, Chris and wife Tamara, two brother in-laws Shane and wife Cindy, and Keith Backus, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Heather was predeceased in death by her grandparents, Wesley and Joyce Bull, her Uncles Wesley, Melvin, and Roger and her brother, Quentin Brown.
