Scott Fairchild Obituary

Scott Michael Fairchild

Scott Michael Fairchild, 39, of Chicago, (formerly of Toledo) passed away January 13th with his wife and parents by his side after a short, but courageous battle with neuroendocrine cancer. Scott was born on August 28,1984 to Denny and Mary Lou (Bailon) Fairchild.

Scott attended St. Thomas Aquinas elementary, joining the Scouting Program (Troop 57) in first grade. He played soccer for the East Toledo Family Center and softball with the scouts. He began many years of volunteering, including parish breakfasts, fish fries, festivals, and serving at Mass. He volunteered in East Toledo community projects, especially many years for their Christmas parades.

Scott graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in 2003. While there, he played basketball his first year (before switching to C.Y.O.), was on the bowling team, and held several positions including Student Council, Spiritual Committee, Eucharistic Minister, Campus Tour Guide, a member of National Honor Society, and Camp Storer Counselor. He also performed in a number of theatre productions. Throughout high school he continued camping trips with the troop and also volunteered at two Jamie Farr LPGA Classics. His extensive volunteer work earned him the Warren Densmore Scholarship. Scott's proudest achievements include receiving Boy Scout Troop 57's scholarship to Philmont, earning the rank of Eagle Scout, and receiving the Bishop's Cross at graduation.

Scott graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication Technology. While at BGSU he worked on campus at the Student TECS. Scott met the love of his life Emily (also formerly of Toledo), while both were enrolled in the same photography class. They married in 2014 at Maumee Bay State Park.

In 2010, they moved to Chicago for better career opportunities. While working at Apple as a Creative, Scott achieved his dream of being credited on the small screen with his work on the film Closed For The Season as well as his behind-the-scenes editing for a local Chicago film Chrysalis.

Scott continued advancing his skills. His love of learning new techniques eventually lead him out of film and into his passion of motion graphic design. He even taught himself augmented reality - a process where computer generated digital content is overlayed onto real-life environments and objects.

Scott and Emily were lucky enough to travel many places in their time together. The couple traveled to Paris for their honeymoon, Italy and Portugal with various state-side visits to friends and family alike. Over Scott's short life, he achieved over half of his life- long goal of seeing all 50 states (35/50). His family road trips included a trip to Mount Rushmore and many camping vacations, putting his scouting skills to the test.

He gained his love for jigsaw puzzles from Papa Bailon, as well as his mother, Mary Lou. A passion that he came to share with his wife and extended family. Scott was captivated by video games. You name it, he had it, and loved bonding over different games with his friends.

Scott will be remembered most for his lovable and outgoing personality, making friends anywhere he went. Letters written by former teachers, coaches and scout leaders, mention his years of volunteering, his devotion to helping others in need, his kindness and compassion to others, along with his honesty, integrity and dependability. The nurses, doctors and staff at Swedish Hospital were enamored with his positivity and good-natured sense of humor. To say that Scott will be missed, is an understatement.

To honor Scott's legacy, the family is asking that you put something good out into the world. Give someone a hug. Call that friend you have not talked to in a while. Pet a dog. Grab some Taco Bell and a Dr. Pepper. Get outside and feel the sunshine.

Scott is survived by his wife, Emily (Granata) of almost 10 years; his parents; sister, Joy (Brian); nieces, Gabriella (Goddaughter) and Isabella Yard; Aunts, Darlene Condon (Godmother), Marcia Fairchild and Lynnette Rarick; and many cousins; in-laws, David and Karen Granata; sister-in-law, Julie (Eric) Hunicutt; and brother-in-law, Dan (Casey Pilkenton) Granata. He was predeceased by grandparents, Michael and Luella Fairchild, Alfred and Fillamay Bailon; brother-in-law, Michael Granata; and Godfather, Jeffrey Miller.

Scott's funeral Mass will be held at Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish (White and Idaho Streets) on Saturday, April 20 where the family will begin to greet guests at 10: 00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral. Scott's wish was to be cremated. Burial will be private.

Mary Lou, Denny, Lynnette and family....my deepest sympathy to you on the passing of Scott. I had such a nice conversation with him when he brought Mr. Bailon to the funeral home for dad. He was such a nice man. Know that you are in my prayers and thoughts.

My condolences to you, Mary Lou and Denny. I once had a wise and good teacher who lost her son and told me that though she'd grieved others in her family, nothing compared to losing her own child. Nothing. So I cannot understand what you are enduring. May you locate some measure of peace for yourselves in the difficult days ahead.

Mary Lou, & Denny, I am so very sorry for your family's loss. I cannot even imagine what you are going through. I don't have the words that will ease your pain. Just know that when I knew Scott from St. Thomas, he was a really good kid. He helped me out in Latchkey a few times, which I really appreciated . I'm sending prayers, love and hugs
