Sidney John Obituary
07/08/1939 - 11/14/2024
Sidney John, a retired attorney and long-time resident of Maumee, before moving to Westerville, OH to be near his two sons for the past 25 years, died peacefully on November 14, after a long battle with blood cancer, at the age of 85.
Sid is survived by Marta, his loving wife of 61 years; his two sons, Joel and Jason; their wives, Molly and Dawn; along with 4 grandchildren, Alison, Andrew, Sydney, and Jordyn.
Sid was born in Montrose, PA, and is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Paulene, and his one brother, David. He grew up in Bowling Green, OH, where he went to high school, before ending up at The Ohio State University, after a year at the University of Arizona. This is where he met Marta, and before long, got married. in 1963. Upon graduating OSU, he went to law school at Ohio Northern for his degree, eventually ending up in a partnership located in Toledo. In addition to his law practice, he served for many years as Chairman of the Board at State Home Savings Bank, before retiring and moving to Westerville with Marta.
Sid loved many things. His family was number one, but he also had a passion for music, golf, history, and most anything Ohio State. He was a prodigious reader, and gave much support to environmental causes such as The National Wildlife Association and Nature Conservatory. Always ready with a joke, his infectious personality made him a joy to be around. Sid will be missed greatly by his friends and family.

There was a period of time where he did legal work for me and I would some carpentry for him at his home or office downtown. I was even able to use him in traffic court which he clearly detected until I told him that I would write out a series of questions on note cards. I needed his commanding presents; his deep voice and pin stripped suit. We won our case handle. I had been sighted in error and the other party ended up losing his license! We had lunch together to celebrate the turn of events. He was genuinely a nice guy. Sorry that we lost touch over the years.

Marta and family, very sorry to hear of Sid´s passing. Really enjoyed getting to know him during our golfing times together. Condolences to all of you on this great loss.
