Barbara Lynne Capuana, a beacon of strength and compassion, left this world on December 31, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on March 23, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio, Barbara was a trailblazer, becoming one of the first female firefighter paramedics in Columbus. Her remarkable career began in Westerville in the mid-1980s, and she joined the Columbus fire service in 1988. Over her distinguished career, she received multiple awards, recognizing her dedication and bravery, and ultimately retired from the heavy rescue unit in 2013.
A proud member of the first graduating class of Westerville North, Barbara also earned her Associates degree from Capital, solidifying her commitment to education as both a student and an instructor at Columbus State, where she taught aspiring fire and rescue professionals.
Beyond her career achievements, Barbara's legacy is defined by the love and warmth she shared with those around her. She was known for making holidays special and ensuring she was always there if someone needed her. Barbara's life was filled with joy, fun, and a strong will, complemented by her compassionate, loyal, and trustworthy nature.
Her vibrant interests and hobbies included traveling, cooking, reading, writing, riding her motorcycle, and gardening. Barbara cherished spending time with her family and friends, making memories that will last a lifetime.
Barbara is survived by her beloved daughter, Adreanne Regner; her grandchildren Gracyn (Rebecca Jensen) Bialko, Sophia Regner, and Corissa Regner; her brother, David (Cathy) Ralston; her niece, Kelly Ralston; her nephew, Jonathan Ralston; and her great-nephew, Cole Ralston, Barbara's partner Mark Cavello and his children and grandchildren along with many other family members and friends, they will carry forward the love she shared.
She joins in eternal rest her parents, David and Joanne Ralston; her husband, James Cummins; her sister, Carol White; and her mother-in-law, Eunice Cummins.
Barbara’s vitality, passion for life, and unwavering dedication to serving her community will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her. A visitation will be held on January 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest, located at 10051 Brewster Ln, Powell, Ohio, 43065. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
