Sylvia Sears Obituary

Sylvia L. Sears

10/05/1943 - 02/04/2025

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Sylvia LaVerne Sears, who was born on October 5, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. Sylvia, who was deeply loved by all who knew her, passed away on February 4, 2025, peacefully, after a courageous battle with dementia.

Sylvia was the daughter of Idus White (Elizabeth White) and Venoris Sears (Lonnie Sears), all deceased. She was a cherished sister to John L. Sears (Mary), Keith Sears, Idus White, Jr. (Jewell) and Mattie Robinson, and a proud aunt to Anastasia Asbury and John Sears, Jr. She also leaves behind a special cousin, Angela Bridges (Michael), along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.

A proud graduate of Scott High School, Sylvia went on to further her education at Stautzenberger Business College. She dedicated many years of her life to working in the banking industry, where she built a distinguished career for several decades before retiring. Even in retirement, Sylvia continued to stay active working part-time for the Toledo Club, and later working as a salesperson with Dillard's.

Sylvia's passion for life was evident in her love of fashion, music, and family. She was always impeccably dressed, with an eye for detail and style. Her favorite music, especially the soulful sounds of Gladys Knight and the Pips, brought joy to her heart. Sylvia's kindness, politeness, and warm-hearted nature made her a true gem to everyone who knew her. Even as her health declined, Sylvia remained sweet, gentle, and caring-qualities that will forever define her legacy.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Cecil and Oliver; two sisters, Sandra and Vanessa; and all of her aunts and uncles.

Visitation and funeral service will be held on February 22, 2025, at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 3232 Nebraska Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
