Thomas and Barbara Eyre
Thomas Eyre died peacefully at McClaren St. Luke's Hospital on Friday, November 5, 2021, with his daughters by his side. Tom was born November 29, 1948, the third of 5 children born to Samuel and Phyllis (Goldie) Eyre. Tom attended Bowser High School and after graduation, admirably enlisted in the military. Tom proudly served his country in Vietnam. After returning home, he married his wife of 51 years, Barbara. Tom worked at Champion Spark Plug until they closed and after returning to school to earn a degree in Facilities Engineering, he went on to his second career in maintenance at Flower Hospital. Even after retiring from Flower, he continued to get together with his friends from work, or as he referred to them as, "The Usual Suspects". During the summer months, you could usually find him at a car show. His love of Fords, especially Mustangs, was one of his favorite indulgences.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Phyllis (Goldie); brother, Sammy; and mother-in-law, Mary Ritz. Toms' wife, Barbara, passed away just 9 days after his own death. Surviving are daughters, Sherri (Howard), Julie; granddaughter, Katie (whom he affectionately referred to as "the rat"); sisters, Zippy (Sam), Janet (Jim) and Judy (Tim); several nieces and nephews; and constant canine companion, Wylie.
Barbara (Ritz) Eyre was born in Toledo, OH June 26, 1948, to Charles and Mary Ritz and passed away peacefully on November 14, 2021. Barb attended Notre Dame Academy, Mercy School of Nursing and St. Joseph's College. Barb worked at Parkview Hospital until they closed and went on to work in long term care in various management capacities. Barb was passionate about her work in long term care after watching her mother's experience as a patient. Barb married Thomas Eyre on July 17, 1970. This past summer they would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. Barb enjoyed frequent trips to Las Vegas and playing bingo, but more than anything she enjoyed spending time with her daughters and granddaughter. Barb made a point to plan Sunday dinner every week and the sounds of laughter and feelings of love were always in abundance.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Ritz; her husband, Tom, just 9 days before her own passing; and very dear friend, Penny Day. Surviving are daughters, Sherri (Howard) and Julie; granddaughter, Katie; brother, Charles (Susan) Ritz; sisters-in-law, Zippy (Sam), Janet (Jim) and Judy (Tim); cousin, James Knapp; several nieces and nephews; and canine companion, Wylie.
