Thomas Gergich Obituary

GERGICH Thomas H. Thomas H. Gergich, 77, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2008. After spending his early years in New Jersey, Tom relocated his family to Northwest Ohio. Most of his professional life was spent as a purchasing agent in the production industry. In 1988, he pursued his dream of opening up a flower shop. For the next 12 years he enjoyed arranging flowers as the owner of Holland Florist, where he retired from in 2000. Tom was a charter member of the Springfield Holland Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow, member of the Maumee Eagles and St. Joan of Arc Church. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, and he loved spending his time following their activities. He was affectionately referred to by many of them as "Boppy". He was also an avid Ohio State fan and loved spending time with his faithful companion Nina. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Cora; son, Thomas (Lynette) Gergich and their children, Amanda and Zach; son, William (Penny) Gergich and their children, Ashley and Billy; daughter, Cheryl (Garry) Old and their children, Kaitlyn, Maggie, Shawn, and Emily; son, Robert (Sandy) Gergich, and their children, Derek and Leslie; brother, Charles Gergich; sister, Theresa (Michael) Palay; special friends and cousins, Ray (Shirley) Orben; Beth (Cam) Knox; Rusty (Kim) Orben; and Kate (Dr. Daniel) Herring. Friends will be received in the Neville Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland (419-865-8879) from 2-9 p.m. Thursday, November 6. Funeral services will begin in the mortuary with prayers being recited at 9:45 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2008, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Springfield Twp. Fire and Rescue Squad or St. Jude Children's Hospital. The family wishes to thank the staff and surgeons at UTMC for their special care. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.nevillefuneralhome.com

Tom was a Wonderful Man, and his legacy, is his family! You are all in my thoughts and prayers, and know one thing......Everything he represented to us, is shown by the care and love he had for his children and grandchildren. God has a new angel............and my guess, he is rearranging the flowers ....right now, next to St. Pete! You all are the Best! Love Ted Behnken

Tom will be greatly missed on the decorating committee at St. Joan of Arc. I can't imagine the Christmas trees looking quite as nice as Tom's expertise made them look. It always amazed me how he managed to help each year despite his health. I will really miss him and feel honored to have known him.

Cora, Tom, Bill, Cheryl, Bob,
I am so sorry for your lost. Tom was a great man, I loved his smile and humor. I will miss his face smiling at me when I am at Loma's. I know he has found the eternal fountain of Margarita's, I hope he saves some for us. May he rest in peace, we all know he is in a better place.

To Bob, and Family. Sorry to hear about your loss, there are no simple words to make it better. Time is the only cure. Just concentrate on what you did do together and not what more could we have done. You will always have your time together to reflect back on. Please know you and your family are in our prayers.

My dear Cora - how sad I am for Tom and you. I know how difficult it is to lose a loved one. You were both so kind during Charlie's illness and ultimate death. Be assured my very caring thoughts and prayers are with you now and in the future.

The future is very difficult and you need all of the love and caring you will receive from your family and friends - however, nothing takes the place of your loving husband.

My love, Helyn Carr
