Tomas Lopez Obituary

LOPEZ

Tomas Sr.

Tomas Lopez Sr. went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2013.

A devoted father, loving grandfather and friend to many, he was born in Delores, Texas, September 22, 1931, to Philomena and

Miguel Lopez.

Tom was a true optimist. Raised in poverty, he had many stories to share about overcoming obstacles, and how he was a much stronger person for it. He would

always attribute his success in life to the generosity of others.

Tom was a member of ROTC in high school. He was a gifted baseball player, and played for Texas Stars for several years.

Tom moved to the Toledo area in the 1940's, where he worked as a migrant in the fields. Through hard work and dedication, he became employed at General Motors until his retirement in the 1980's.

His legacy is his kindness, caring, and generosity to all that knew him. A truly good man, whose world evolved around family, Tom's grandchildren, especially, was his pride and joy. A day didn't pass where he wouldn't comment on his love for them.

Left to cherish his memory is his children, Tom (Colleen) Lopez and Deborah Lopez; grandchildren, Tommy, Dan and Ben Lopez, Tiffany Wills, Briana (Jack) Lynch; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Layla Wills and Jase Lynch; brother, Ray; family, Velma Hauser, and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was referred to by "Papa" from most who knew him in later years. He spread his love and generosity to all. We are left with only wonderful memories of this great man. We love you, Papa.

Family and friends may be received at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary St.,

Perrysburg, OH, on Friday, August 9, 2013, from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 10, 2013, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Online condolences may be left at

Tom, Colleen, Tommy, Dan, and Ben....Papa became a part of our lives when we lived in Perrysburg. I only have the fondest of memories of him and still to this day he brings me smiles when he would bring Brigham home after school with bags full of candy and the moon roof open for the boys to just be boys! My thoughts to all of you during this difficult time.
Fondly,

I worked with Tomas for almost 30 years at General Motors. Tomas was a very enjoyable person to be around. We talked about family ansd he would tell me all about his children and grandchildren and what he was doing with them. He was a very good family man. Yes he does leave a great legacy to his grandchildren.

To The Lopez Family,

It is with tremendous sadness that I heard of your loved ones passing. Just like many others I am sure, it was with great joy and a beautiful smile Mr. Lopez would greet me. Usually in the rink but many times at the store, bank or wherever we crossed paths we shared friendly chat. He was proud of his family and it was readily evident he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. God Bless Mr. Lopez and his family and friends at this time of grief. It was an honor to know him.

You are truly a man to be admired Papa Tom. You set many examples of how to be loving, caring, nonjudgmental, kind and compassionate. Your grandchildren learned many life lessons by observing how you lived your life. You left them an invaluable legacy. We will miss you dearly. Kathleen and Ed Jeffreys
