Wayne George
1939-2025
Wayne Larry George, age 86, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness, surrounded by the loving presence of his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend, Wayne's life was marked by unwavering support, quiet strength, and an unmistakable wit that brought light to those around him.
Wayne was born at home on a snowy day in Delta, Ohio, to Marvin George and Chrystene Mohr George. He graduated from Swanton High School in 1957 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Dairy Technology from The Ohio State University in 1963. A proud Buckeye to the end, Wayne's loyalty to his alma mater ran deep.
It was in junior high in Swanton that Wayne met the love of his life, Tamara Bloom. Theirs was a rare and enduring love story that spanned more than six decades, from young sweethearts to lifelong partners. They married on September 8, 1962, and together built a life grounded in love, laughter, work, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to family and community. Wayne was Tamara's steadfast supporter through every chapter of their lives-encouraging her in her career and post-graduate education.
Wayne's professional path led him to manage several dairy and food processing plants, including the Kalamazoo Creamery, where he earned a reputation for integrity and excellence. He also served as president of the Independent Co-op Milk Producers Association and of the Echo Lake Association. Beyond his career, Wayne found joy in giving back to his community, notably contributing to the development of the Schoolcraft athletic complexes-an enduring legacy in the town where he lived for 35 years before retiring to Grand Rapids.
Wayne's greatest joys were found in the lives and achievements of his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Tamara Bloom George; his son, Justin George (Stacey) of Grand Rapids; and daughter, Lisa George Edgar (Michael) of Tallahassee, Florida. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Peyton George Baker (Egan), Samantha Edgar, Aidan Edgar, Campbell George, and Kendall George. He is also survived by his sister, Susan George Paxton (William); and brother-in-law, Nile Bloom (Starr); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Junior and Audrey La Plante Bloom.
Wayne was a fixture on the sidelines of his children and grandchildren's games-whether near or far-never missing an opportunity to cheer them on. He delighted in dinners out with Tamara, spent many afternoons on the golf course, and followed collegiate sports with the same loyalty he extended to those he loved. His dry humor, delivered with impeccable timing, endeared him to many and often lightened even the most serious moments.
His legacy is one of steadfast love and support, a life lived with purpose and humility, and a heart deeply attuned to the success and happiness of those he loved. He took great pride in his children's legal careers and in the dreams his grandchildren are pursuing-always encouraging, always present.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Wayne's nephew, Dr. Bill Paxton, as well as Gentiva Hospice and Tammi Schafer for their compassionate care.
In honor of Wayne's memory, the family invites donations to the Schoolcraft Athletic Boosters, a cause dear to his heart, or to Gentiva Hospice:
