Wayne Karchner Obituary
Wayne F. Karchner, age 93, of Woodville, OH passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Otterbein Portage Valley Senior Lifestyle Community, Pemberville, OH. He was born on February 9, 1925 in Fremont, OH to Harry and Ruth (Perringer) Karchner. On September 25, 1948 he married Kathleen "Kitty" Blecke in Woodville and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2010. For 35 years he was a postal supervisor for the United States Postal Service, Toledo and retired in 1983. His memberships included: Solomon Lutheran Church, church dartball team, Woodville Historical Society and Woodville Clarence L. Nieman American Legion Post #455. In his spare time, he volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile. Wayne served his country proudly while enlisted in the United States Army during WWII, received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1945.
Wayne is survived by his son, Mark (Judy) Karchner of Woodville; grandchildren, Joshua (Rachel) Karchner of Woodville, Dawn (Jeremy) Lauer of Luckey; and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Luke, Xander, Jacob and William. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kitty; infant son, Todd; and stillborn daughter, Beth.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street, Woodville, OH. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Solomon Lutheran Church, 305 W. Main Street, Woodville, OH with additional visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. Bob Noble. Interment will be in Westwood Cemetery, Woodville. A bereavement luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal service. Consideration for memorial contributions may be given to: Solomon Lutheran Church, Solomon Lutheran School or Ohio Living Hospice.
