William J. Esq.



William James Peters Esq., departed this life very early on November 7, 2013, after an extended illness. He was born on February 13, 1941, in Opelika, AL to Earlean and Eugene Peters. William attended Scott High School, then the University of Toledo for undergraduate studies and law school. Before attending law school, he worked as a chemist at Allied Chemical in Toledo and was a seventh grade teacher at Gunckel School. While in law school, he headed CCIC of the Model Cities Program for the City of Toledo. He practiced criminal law in Toledo as a public defender and in private practice for nearly 40 years before retiring. William was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. In recent years, he joined Third Baptist Church after being a member of Warren AME Church for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Cecelia C. Peters; daughters, Dawn Lark, Celia, Candace, and Camille Peters; sister, Betty Davis; grandson, Brandon Lark; many nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.

The visitation will take place on Monday, November 11, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dale-Riggs Funeral Home, 572 Nebraska Avenue, Toledo OH 43604. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. preceded by wake at 1 p.m. at Third Baptist Church, 402 Pinewood Avenue, Toledo OH 43604. The family appreciatively asks that flowers be sent to Dale-Riggs Funeral Home.
