William Timmerman Obituary

William Timmerman

07/15/1936 - 08/10/2025

William J. Timmerman, 89, passed away peacefully in his home on August 10, 2025, wearing his Who Dey Cincinnati Bengals sweatshirt. William was born in Dayton, Ohio, to Lavada and Julius Timmerman. He grew up in Covington. Kentucky. He met his wife of 58 years, Patricia, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they both worked for Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries. They moved to Bryan, Ohio, to raise their children before retiring to San Antonio, Texas.

William had his PhD in counseling and spent many years as a vocational rehabilitation consultant, researcher and adjunct professor at Bowling Green University and The Medical College of Ohio. He founded the Quiet Place in Bryan, Ohio, as a Christian healing, counseling and prayer center open to the community at no charge. He received an open arms award from Bishop Leonard P. Blair, Diocese of Toledo, Ohio, in 2007. In his retirement, his passion for writing was evident with his publication of 50+ books.

Outside of his professional life, William was passionate about baseball, especially his Cincinnati Red-puppies, his family, extended family and friends. His other interests included engaging in deep discussions about spiritual matters, enjoying good wine, a good beer and traveling to Italy. His snicker of a laugh was infectious, and he had a great appreciation for humor. Family stories were guaranteed to set him off in fits of laughter, filling us with cherished memories.

To know Bill was to know a man of boundless energy and spirit. Whose resilience and positive attitude were unwavering. A man who dedicated his life to helping others overcome their own challenges whether physical, psychological or spiritual, while facing his own. His faith permeated his life.

William was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, James E. Ward; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy M. Ward (Bowen).

William is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Timmerman (Ward); son, David Timmerman, and his wife, Jodi; daughter, Lisa Dennehey (Herbert), and her husband, Joseph; son, Michael Timmerman, and his wife, Valerie; daughter, Dana Groh, and her husband, Patrick; son, Stephen (Captain) Timmerman; son, Joseph Timmerman, and his wife, Jamie. Forever cherished and remembered by his grandchildren, Katherine, Madeleine and Paul Timmerman; Caleb, Lucy and Anna Herbert; Natalie and Emily Timmerman; Annmarie, Nathan and Alexander Groh; Grady, Zoey and Sadie Timmerman. He is also survived by loving in-laws, Jim and Kathy, Tom and Cheryl, Karen and Chuck, Mary Jo and John, Anne and Chuck, Bob and Mary Ellen; in addition to his many loving nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life will take place 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd, Toledo, Ohio. Prior to his passing, Bill requested all who attend dress in bright colors. In his own words, "I don't want people standing around crying, I want people laughing and having a party."

I met Bill when I worked at Quadco . He was my professor at BGSU. My career in rehab kept our paths crossing. He was a great man. He will be missed by many, especially all the people he helped
