Luis Cardenas Obituary
Luis, or Louie to many, was born on November 26, 1936 to Luis Jose Cardenas, Sr. and Elena Cardenas de Guerra in Laredo, Texas. He attended the University of Texas, where he completed a degree in Business Administration and became a lifelong Longhorns fan.
In 1962, he met his love, Carol Marie Baker. After only three months, they knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, and were married in Houston, Texas, on January 5, 1963. They soon welcomed their two children, Carol Marlena Cardenas and Luis David Cardenas.
Luis worked for over thirty years at Anderson, Clayton & Company in a wide variety of technical and managerial roles. He concluded his career as a human resources leader for Cooper Industries. Following his retirement in 2005, Luis was an active volunteer in his community in Magnolia, Texas, particularly at Saint Matthias Catholic Church and SIRE, a therapeutic equestrian center.
Luis was guided by his Catholic faith, his deep love for his wife and family, and his diligent work ethic. He worked long hours and still never missed an opportunity to show up for his children and grandchildren. He was diligent, even-keeled, meticulous, and always had a clever joke to tell. Even toward the end of his life, he joked, "At least I haven't broken my funny bone!"
Luis is survived by his wife Carol, his children Marlena and Tim Griffin and Dave and Stacey Cardenas, his brother and sister-in-law Carlos and Davron Cardenas, eight grandchildren (Lexi, Keki, Madigan, Daniel, Phoebe, Adam, Cara, Joe), and countless other family members and friends whose hearts he touched.
A rosary/remembrance will be held at the home of Tim and Marlena Griffin on January 10, 2025 at 6:00pm. A funeral mass will be offered at Saint Charles Church in San Carlos, California, on January 11, 2025 at 10:00am.
