Leona Liedtka Obituary
Born in Hooversville, Pa., she had been a resident of New Egypt for the past 60 years.
Leona was very proud to have served as a petty officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She had been stationed in Washington and had worked at the Pentagon. She was the oldest veteran in New Egypt.
She was the owner and president of Chipar Land Clearing in New Egypt and worked the family farm for many years. Leona had attended Hunter College. She was a parishioner at the Church of the Assumption in New Egypt. She was a member of the U.S. Trotter Association, and also enjoyed racing stock cars in the Powder Puff Derby at New Egypt Speedway.
Leona was predeceased by her husband, Walter A. Liedtka, and a son, Bruce Liedtka. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Novak and her husband Peter of San Diego, Calif. and Dawn A. Liedtka of New Egypt, and three grandchildren, Erica, Jennifer and Erin.
Mass of Christian burial for Leona will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 5) at the Church of the Assumption Chapel, 76 Evergreen Road, New Egypt, with burial to follow in Emley's Hill Cemetery in Cream Ridge. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight (Oct. 4) at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St., New Egypt. (www.tilghmanfh.com.)
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leona's memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. (www.dav.org.)

Mrs. L. was our dear neighbor and friend. She was a lovely lady and full of dignity, charm, and beauty through the last season of her life. I will never forget planting snow peas with her on St. Patrick's Day. We laughed and cried and were joyous for the spring.

Sorry to read of the passing of Leona.
We are out of town for a while, but wanted to let you know you are all in our thouhgts and prayers.
We didn,t know Leona well, but have known her for years.
