Robert Olson Obituary
Robert Dan Olson
December 28, 1936 - December 22, 2025
Robert Dan (Bob) Olson quietly passed away on December 22nd in Casper, Wyoming. Bob left his family and friends six days before his 89th birthday. Bob was born in Lovell, Wyoming on December 28th, 1936 to Robert C. Olson and Tomi (Neville) Olson. He was an only child, and grew up surrounded by cousins in the Big Horn Basin.
Bob, or Robert Dan as he was known then, lived with his uncle Keith and Aunt Nicki Neville, where he attended Byron High School and lived with six cousins.
Robert Dan graduated from Byron High School as Valedictorian in 1955, and went on to Brigham Young University on a football scholarship. Bob, or Oly as he was known then, graduated in 1959, and married the BYU Homecoming Queen and love of his life, Faye (Baker) Olson. They were married for over 54 years making Cody their home, until Faye proceeded him in death in 2013.
After BYU, Bob attended the University of Wyoming, where he graduated first in his law class. He worked for several years as an attorney for Husky Oil Company, before moving into private practice with Wyoming Law School friend, Richard (Dick) Day. They later merged with Goppert, Goppert & Fitzstephens. Bob was also the Cody City Attorney for 28 years before retiring.
Bob and Faye loved traveling and adventures in the outdoors. They traveled many places around the world, including a Harley motorcycle trip across Oman with Faye hanging on for dear life.
Bob is survived by four children, Jim (Amy) Olson, Suzanne Shields, Darin (Athsole) Olson, and Danelle (Paul) Axthelm. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by many cousins and friends.
It's been said of Bob that while many people collect things, Bob collects people. He enjoyed people and was always excited to make new friends where ever found himself.
Bob was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings including Bishop and as a missionary later in life.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for next summer, where his ashes will be interred in Byron Cemetery next to his soul mate, Faye.
