James R. Workman Sr., 81, of Liberty, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in Riverside Care Center, McKeesport. He was born June 19, 1929, in Vanderbilt, and was the son of the late Oliver and Helen (Crossland) Workman. James was a member of McKeesport Alliance Church, where he was a deacon and usher and worked at their food bank for many years. He was retired from Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania and was a member of Bell Pioneers of America and the Association of Bell Retirees. He was also a volunteer at the McKeesport Salvation, Army and served in the Army from 1947 to 1950 as a corporal. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara (Woleslagle) Workman; a son, James (Cindy) Workman, of Connellsville; daughters, Judy (Jerry) Snyder, of Acme, and Kathy Willis, of Mt. Pleasant; a stepdaughter, Karen Balliet, of West Mifflin; sisters, Joyce (Gilbert) Shroger and Lois Shroger, of Connellsville, Emma Jean Miner, of Greensboro, N.C., Betty Bregar, of Kirtland, Ohio, Doris (Bob) Loncharich, of Latrobe, and Shirley (Joe) Marcus, of Cape Coral, Fla.; brothers, Robert Workman, of Cape Coral, Fla, Glen (Dolly) Workman, of Oakland, Tenn., and Dale (Carrol) Workman, of Freeport, Ohio; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Elsie Brady, Grace Vargo and Phyllis Burke. Funeral service took place Friday in the chapel of the GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 6028 Smithfield St., Boston, Elizabeth Township. The Rev. Douglas McCracken officiated. Burial followed in Greenridge Memorial Cemetery, Connellsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
