Joseph Orie Obituary

Joseph R. Orie, 82, of Spring Grove, formerly of Polish Hill, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010. Beloved husband of Lorraine F. (Dietz) Orie, of 54 years; loving father of Mari M. Orie, Joseph J. (Julie) Orie, Robyn K. Orie and the late Robert V. Orie; grandfather of Christy (Mark) LaChapelle and Lauren Orie; brother of Dr. John R. Orie, MD, and the late Dorothy Pierotti; uncle of Judge Joan Orie-Melvin, Senator Jane Clare Orie, Dr. Judith Orie, MD, Dr. Joseph D. Orie, MD, and other nieces and nephews. Mr. Orie was the proprietor of Orie's Tavern on Polish Hill and then started his career in 1961 with Cole Business Furniture (a division of Litton Industries) in Pittsburgh as a territorial sales representative for Pennsylvania. In 1970, he held the position of midwestern regional manager based in Chicago. He was also appointed national sales manager in 1975. Residing in Spring Grove, at this position, he assumed total responsibility for sales including dealer distribution and national accounts. He launched his own business as an independent manufacturer's representative in 1978 and retired at age 70. He will be sadly missed by his wife and children and was a wonderful husband and father. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 3201 Dobson St., Polish Hill. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
