Robert A. Somerhalder

Robert A. Somerhalder, 82, of Ben Avon, died peacefully Monday, July 29, 2013. He was the beloved companion of Trudy File, of Ben Avon. Born Sept. 1, 1930, he was a son of the late Alfred R. Somerhalder and Dorothy (Sullivan) McKeone. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Judith (Lippert) Somerhalder. He was survived by one brother, Jack (Arlene) Somerhalder; sister, Patricia McKeone; close cousin, Ann Somerhalder Dobson; sons and daughters, Lisa George (Phillip), Scott, Karen and Robert; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the mother of his children, Gloria Somerhalder. Bob was a graduate of Westinghouse High School and the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering. Most of his career was spent in the design and installation of rolling steel mills all over the world for United/Wean Engineering. He was a Korean War veteran, who served as a proud Marine and played trumpet in a Marine band. Bob had a profound love of music and performed with the Glenshaw Players in his early years and most recently sang in the choir at Assumption Church in Bellevue. He enjoyed theater, concerts, the opera, reading and walking his Shelties. The family is sincerely grateful to the staffs at Sunrise of McCandless and Wexford House for their care and compassion. Following his wishes, there will be no visitation. Family and Friends will gather at a later date to celebrate Bob's life. Arrangements have been made by MCDONALD-LINN FUNERAL HOME INC., Avalon.
