Ronald Kunda Obituary

Ronald G. Kunda, 63, of Franklinville, N.Y., formerly of Penn Township and Braddock, passed into life eternal on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. He was the husband of Susan Kammerer. of Sardinia, N.Y.; and the father of Damian (wife, Nicole), of Buffalo, N.Y., and Cassie Greene (husband, Ralph), of Bedford, Wy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Raf and Skylar Greene and Ryan Kunda. Ron was born July 26, 1947, to the late Nicholas Bella Kunda and Marge Ponchak Kunda Phoebe. He was raised in Braddock by his mother, Marge, and his late stepfather, Charles Phoebe. He graduated from St. Thomas District High School, class of 1965, and he earned a bachelor of humanities degree from Slippery Rock University. Upon completion of his degree, he moved to New York, where he taught art in New York Public Schools until his retirement. He did his graduate work at St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y., and Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y. He loved the close relationship that he had with his family, the Ponchaks and the Populas. He organized their family reunions. He was a member of the Slavonic Social Club. Per Ron's wishes there is no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in Good Shepherd Church, Braddock Avenue, Braddock, with Father Thomas Burke as celebrant. Cremation will follow. Ron's family will receive friends and relatives at Good Shepherd Church. Arrangements entrusted to the SCHLEIFER FUNERAL CHAPEL INC., 412-271-1361, formerly the Ronald V. Im so sorry to see this, Mr. Kunda was my art teacher and friend in the early 80's in Franklinville, NY. He was a hero to me.
