David Sukay Obituary

David L. Sukay, 90, of Greensburg, died Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Greensburg, a son of the late Stephen D. and Mary V. (Holick) Sukay. He was a graduate of Greensburg High School Class of 1952 and then went on to study at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. Prior to retirement, he had been a service inventory supervisor for Elliott Group, Jeannette, for 43 years. He was a member of the Elliott Veterans Association and the Elliott Retirees Club. After retirement, David installed a weather array and joined the American Meteorological Society to further his study of weather. He was an avid model railroader. He was a member of and secretary for the Colonel Scott Excursion Railway, where he contributed time and work on many projects to be run on the Southwestern PA Rail Line and at festivals. David was a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends for over 45 years, hunting, fishing, and bowling. A desire to upgrade his property after retirement led him to plant various perennial gardens with great satisfaction as a result. Above all, though, he enjoyed and supported his grandchildren in all of their activities and achievements. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome T. Sukay. He is survived by his children, Jeffrey D. Sukay and wife, Nora, of Camarillo, CA, Mark E. Sukay and wife, Joyce, of Mt. Pleasant, and Brian R. Sukay and wife, Annah, of Greensburg; loving friend, Joann Sukay; five grandchildren, Erica, Nicholas and wife, Brittany, Laurin, Alec, and Gabriella Sukay; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Eli, and Kyla Sukay; his brother, Timothy P. Sukay and wife, Mary Ann, of Camphill; niece and nephews, Amy Rotert, Greg Sukay, and Michael Sukay; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Kailee and Rachel Rotert, and Allison, Sierra, Calvin, and Hudson Sukay. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg. Prayers will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Entombment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. www.bachafh.com.
