David Trimble Obituary

David Blaine Trimble, 73, of Calabash, N.C., formerly of Irwin, passed away Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021. He was born Jan. 19, 1948, in Greensburg, a son of the late C. Blaine and Gertrude C. (Kirk) Trimble. David was a dedicated English teacher and sports coach at Norwin Senior High School for over three decades. He moved to the beach with his wife, Liz, and they enjoyed living near the Atlantic Ocean for the past decade. He was an avid reader, consuming multiple books each week, as well as a passionate historian, including spending many hours researching and documenting his family ancestry back to the Revolutionary War and beyond. David was an accomplished Bridge player and received the distinction as a life master through the ACBL, continuing to play online almost daily. He was also a jazz lover, known to play jazz in his classroom to aid students in their creative writing. David always reminded Liz that she could find him in the next life by following these simple instructions from Peter Pan, "Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning." He is survived by his wife, Lizanne, (Mawhinney) Trimble; his children William Trimble, and Beth (John) Davis of McMurray; stepchildren, Cathy (Ryan) Warner and step-grandson, Jack, of Baldwin, and Daniel (Natalie) Speca, of Pittsburgh; his brother, William (Carol) Trimble, of Atlanta, Ga. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 521 Main Street, Irwin, PA 15642, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Irwin. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, scleroderma.org, or to Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin, PA 15642. My deepest sympathy to all of Dave's family members. Dave was an outstanding English teacher at Norwin High School. Dave and I, and brother Bill were friends from North Irwin, and we spent a lot of time at the North Irwin Playground playing many sports, but probably devoting most of our time to baseball. Dave said he remembered all the infield balls I had hit to him when he was playing for the playground minor team when I was a playground director in 1961. Dave was a good friend and he will truly be missed. He will always be in my memories when I recall my youth at North Irwin.

Mr. Trimble was my favorite teacher at East. Some friends and I were at dinner just last week, talking about how much we liked him. I´m sorry for your loss. RIP, Mr. Trimble.
