Donald Weatherton Obituary

Donald J. Weatherton, 69, of Bradenville, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at his residence. Born Aug. 9, 1948, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Patrick J. and Esther M. (Oberholtzer) Weatherton. Don was a member of Holy Family Church. He was retired from Smail Automotive Group. Don was a member of the Latrobe Area Historical Society and the First Ward Reunion Committee. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed collecting unique fishing rods. Don was an outgoing, generous man who loved people. He could often be a "prankster", but he was always a devoted friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Don is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Myers) Weatherton, of Bradenville; one son, Douglas Nachreiner, of Greensburg; one daughter, Jodi Kumar, and partner, Burwell Hannon, of Washington, D.C.; one grandson, Killian; and his golden retrievers, Max and Maisie Mae.
At Don's request, there will be no public visitations. Services and interment are private. Arrangements are being handled by the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Latrobe Area Historical Society, P.O. Box 266, Latrobe, PA 15650. To sign online guest book, send condolences, or to view detailed obituary information, please visit www.lopatich.com.

I'm so sorry to learn of Don's passing. I never met him in person but got to know him thru the numerous times we spoke on the phone. Don commissioned me several years ago to make him two custom fishing rods. He contacted me a few times a year thereafter just to say hi and chew the fat and was always cordial and engaging in conversation, a true gent and for this I considered him to be much more than a customer. Tight lines on that glorious trout stream in the heavens my friend.

I knew Don from the car business. Always great to do business with. He was a joy to know. We shared a birthday by one day and he never forgot. His smile will be missed.
Hugs to his family at this difficult time.

I met Don and Bonnie through his Golden Retriever Jessie. He loved his dogs. We became very good friends and we ended up breeding his dog Jessie to my Dazzle. It made him so happy and such enjoyment he got out of those puppies. You are reunited now with your beautiful Jessie. You will be missed.
