Douglas A. Shumar

Douglas A. Shumar, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away suddenly Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025. Doug was born Oct. 7, 1952, to the late William Sr. and Mary Ellen Plannett Shumar. Doug was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant Area High School, class of 1971, and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He worked as an art illustrator at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Doug was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Fireman's Club, Polish Falcons Club, Hecla Sportsmen's, and the former Elks Lodge in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, painting, gardening, fixing anything around the house, and playing with his grandkids. Doug is survived by his loving family, his wife, Phyllis Sebek Shumar; his daughters, Amanda Geer (Chris), Alesha Kincaid (Eric), and Allison Shumar (Chris); his grandchildren, Amaris and Greyson Geer, and Graham and Amelia Kincaid; and by his grand dogs, Sawyer and Pierogi. He is also survived by his brothers, William Shumar Jr. (Juanita) and Craig Shumar; and by numerous extended family. Family and friends will be received on Friday, from 11:00 a.m., until the hour of his funeral service at noon at GALONE-CARUSO FUNERAL HOME INC., Mt. Pleasant. Inurnment will follow in Mt.
