Edward Kissell Obituary

Edward J. Kissell, 75, of Greensburg, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, in Excela Health Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 1, 1929, in Mammoth, a son of the late Michael J. and Catherine J. (Soltis) Kissell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he was a self-employed general contractor. Edward was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg, VFW Post 33, Greensburg, American Slavonic Home Association (United Club), and the Norvelt Senior Golf League. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary (Kissell) Seni and her husband, George, and Pauline (Kissell) Mizak and her husband, Stephen; and a brother-in-law, Edward Abzanka. He was the loving husband of 53 years of Frances H. (Bush) Kissell; and was also the loving father to the following children: Michael F. Kissell and his wife, Maddalena, of Greensburg, Karen R. (Kissell) Lehman and her husband, Walter, also of Greensburg, Sandra M. (Kissell) Kaputa and her husband, Richard, of Mt. Pleasant, Mary B. Kissell of Greensburg, Mark E. Kissell and his wife, Kimberly, of Hostetter, Matthew J. Kissell and his wife, Amy, of Greensburg, and Linda J. (Kissell) Smoker and her husband, Duane, of Greensburg; 15 grandchildren; a brother, Thomas M. Kissell and his wife, Helen, of Unity Township; a sister, Dorothy (Kissell) Abzanka, of Oakmont; and nieces and nephews. Edward was known as one of the best fastball pitchers in the Westmoreland County Baseball League and also in the U.S. Army's 2nd Division in Germany. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Florian Catholic Church, United, with the Rev. Raymond E. Riffle as celebrant. However, at Edward's request, viewing and interment will be received by family only. The VFW Post 33 Honor Guard will accord military rites at the cemetery. JAY A.
